GCD file(s) to be made available at least for "legacy" products / Help needed to solve a GPS software version 0.00 on a Vivoactive HR / Thank you

I have a Fenix 6x Pro unfortunately currently returned due to an issue covered by the guarantee. In between I use my old Vivoactive HR which is still working fine.

This weekend I connected it to Garmin Express and it updated the Vivoactive HR watch to software version 5.30. The issue is that now the GPS version is stuck to 0.00. I installed the Garmin Web updater application, reinstalled the software. It is still the same. Garmin Web Updater proposes to update GPS Chipset Type M5 but when I tried, it did not work. I tried a diverse form of reset, but it also did not work. I remembered that I had this issue in the past and managed to solve it… but I don’t remember how anymore.

Now I would like to try to install the GPS software only. For this I would need the GCD to do that manually. I do not find any more GCD files on the Garmin website. Could someone provide me a link to download the GCD file to update the GPS software only?

If you have other ideas of course it is welcome. Thank you.

It would be a pity to declare this watch good for the bin since it was working perfectly before the update, and I still use it from time to time when I don’t want to wear the Fenix.

  • Thank you for the proposal and thanks a lot for your help. I just tried the steps as you said and let the watch stay in running mode 55 minutes in open air. But I just see that the GPS was never working and the GPS software is still 0.00.

    Honestly as much as I love Garmin watches and other devices... this self debugging (that I had for Vivoactive HR, Fenix 5, Fenix 6x Pro... and even with their Index scale with the first software...) is sometimes fun but in this case it is too much and not anymore fun. Under warranty I would send the watch back but of course... this is not anymore the case for this watch. I will keep trying any further ideas, and also keep searching for the GCD file. Thank you 

  • If you haven't reboot the watch, try that.  Press the left button for 20 seconds or so, and the watch turns itself off.  Then turn it back on.

    As far as the 20 minutes, take if off and leave it alone for that 20 minutes.  Don't wear it - keep it in the exact same place.  Be sure you are running something that uses GPS - like the run activity - for that 20 minutes.

  • Yes I took it for a long walk, and also a ran on Saturday and Sunday. I also flashed a older beta software for which I had the GCD file (but same issue happened: GPS software 0.00), tried to find GPS in the garden a long time, it also did not work, I re-updated to 5.30 via Garmin express (same GPS software 0.00 issue), tried to find GPS again while running: it didn't work.

    I remember that I had many software issues at that time and I already had this issue and solved it (how...I don't remember). I would have known, I would not have updated the watch which worked perfectly the days before...

    Now I need to again solve the "puzzle". 

    I want to try to load the GPS software individually. Then...I am open to any other ideas
