Forerunner 965's whole screen is shifted at custom Data Fields.

Hello!

Forerunner 965's whole screen is shifted at custom data field. There is a black rim at top and left side. I tested it with multiple data fields, all had this bug.

In simulator this bug doesn't exist, just on real device.

I don't think this is a bug, Garmin AMOLED devices apparently use pixel shifting to avoid burn-in. Apparently, activity data field contents and separators will move around over time.

Since this has come up a few times before, maybe the real bug here is the lack of documentation around this behavior.

jim_m_58 is right, using a white background is strongly discouraged for AMOLED devices (which is why it's not an option for the built-in data pages, unlike non-AMOLED devices).

Even on a MIP device (which supports both white and black backgrounds for data fields, and does not have this issue with pixel shifting), imo it would be best to to call DataField.getBackgroundColor() to determine whether the current activity is using black or white as a background color (despite the fact that you've implemented a full-screen data field), and adjust your data field background color to match. As a bonus, you could reuse the same code for AMOLED devices (I assume getBackgroundColor() will always return black in this case.)

Thank you! This is super helpful! I will rewrite the background code part!

Our application shows the aerobic and anaerobic energy generation in real time. It is super important to clearly see when the energy generation turns to anaerobic dominant and how much that is so you can see and control which ability you improve (e.g., VO2 max) each second. That's why I forced the white background; black wasn't the best in the previous non-AMOLED devices, and athletes couldn't see the graphs very well.
