Bug Report: Is the App Store Trial System Broken ?

Hi, I think there may be an issue with the App Store and Trial Mode. Some of my paying customers who have unlocked versions of my app (wristMT) are reporting that they have reverted to the Trial version when the latest update was downloaded.  This effectively locks them out of the app as the 30 day trial period built into the app logic is triggered and prevents access. For others, including myself everything is working as expected when updating.

I uploaded a second copy of the app this morning, went through the Unlock process which seems to have completed successfully from my side. When redirected back to the Garmin App store, the unlock button is still visible. If I download the app again, I still get the Trial version. (Conceivable there could be an issue on my end but nothing has changed [I'm sure all developers say that :-)] That being said, my users, at least two of which have been paid up customers using the unlocked version for more than three years are now getting the trial version.)

Can someone from Garmin please take a look at the App Store Trial functionality. This seems to have broken in the last few days.

Rick

  • I tried contacting Developer Support and got this response, "For your inquiry, we need to ask you to use the Connect IQ forum as we do not provide a dedicated support address for Connect IQ."  So, not much help.

  • Hi Rick, thank-you for such a quick reply.

I suspect you are correct, feeling "both are related".  Pretty annoying - I won't get back the time I've spent building a sub site and database to handle the unlock requests in line with their documentation.  I can only imagine how frustrating being unable to unlock apps for your paying users would be.

  • Hi David. No, as is quite common with Garmin, they sometimes acknowledge a problem but seldom actually fix it or communicate with you to tell you they're not going to fix it. This "broke" just before they released their own app store payment system. I feel both are related.

  • Hi Rick, did you ever get a response or solution from Garmin?  I've recently started developing an app, would like to use the Trial functionality but am unable to perform a successful call to the test URL.  Thanks.

  • ** BUMP **

Not sure what I need to do to get an update on this issue. Angry

My customers still can't unlock the app due to a 404 error.

I guess I'm lucky I develop apps as a hobby and not to put food on the table.Disappointed
