Lap+ data field

Lap+ is a single run datafield with a difference — it's made for runners who need all their lap data in a single app.

If you ever wanted...

  • 6 customizable fields with any combo of lap/activity metrics you could imagine (over 100 combos)
  • (Optional) Auto splits (by time or distance) separate from your manual laps, with alerts and metrics for your splits
  • † To review *all* your laps during a workout

...Lap+ has you covered.

If you ever wondered why you can't see your Last Lap Max HR, or wished that your VA3 had custom lap alert data, Lap+ is for you. Want to see all your laps in a list, with any metrics you can think of, such as lap time, total time, lap pace or average activity pace? Lap+ can do that.

As someone who's run more intervals than I can count, I wanted a datafield I would actually look at while I'm resting between hard laps, so I made one. Hopefully you'll find this somewhat useful as well.

Download Lap+ from the Connect IQ store:

3 additional clones are available here, so you can use 2 Lap+ pages at once, or have 4 different configurations:

† = Not available for older devices: D2 Bravo [Titanium], Fenix 3, FR230, 235, 630, 920XT, Vivoactive

If you need the lap viewer for an older device or just without the 6 fields, Lap Viewer is available as a standalone datafield:

  • - The simplest and most obvious feature of Lap+ -- having six fields on the same page -- is now a standard feature in newer/high-end Garmin watches. I use Lap+ myself every day, but if I didn't care about the lap list, I wouldn't need it at all

Let me add that before I acquired an Enduro 2 I had had to rely on distance based split of Lap+, because Fenixes and Enduro missed the auto lap by position of Forerunners. So I measured my loops and used those non standard distances in Lap+.

But from F7 Garmin finally added auto lap by position, so I am happy with my Enduro 2.

I wrote all this to express that you were right when you abandoned the development, because even this specific use became not a must, but a sort of redundant knowledge.

And with F6X and Enduro I had the extra problem when I inserted a smsll deviation from the loop to get some oat bar, water etc.

  • Thanks for the feedback!

Well it's always been a niche field.

The thing is, having separate auto laps (splits in Lap+) and manual laps is something that Polar users claim to miss (DCR called this out years ago), but as with most features of this nature, it can't really be fully implemented via Connect IQ. For example, Lap+ can display the "auto splits" during the activity, but it can't really write them to the FIT file in a user-friendly and fully-featured way. So anyone who misses the post-run analysis of Polar would still be disappointed.

I do use a sideloaded version of it on my FR955 (no official support), but only really for the lap list (lap max HR is one of the metrics I like to look at in this list, when I do interval workouts).

I never really look at the six fields anymore, as I now have several 8-field native data pages with native data that Lap+ doesn't provide. Lap+ does allow for esoteric metrics created by combos of keywords, like "Last Lap Min (or Max) HR", but obviously there's not a huge demand for that kind of thing.

I would like to update Lap+ (and my other apps) for newer devices one day. It's on the wishlist.

To me the fonts of Lap+ were still much more readable, because they were thicker compared to native ones and this datascreen had a unique layout of 3*2, which Garmin did not offer.

I never liked the native fonts of Fenixes and Enduro and to me things went even worse with Enduro 3 and Fenix 8. I mean displays are clearer, but the fonts are too thin.

Yes I purposely choose that layout so each field has the same amount of real estate (unlike the native 6-field layout). And I scaled the text so the numbers are as large as possible.

I don't mind the smaller fonts that Garmin uses (after all I use the 8 field layout), but I recognize that many people appreciate the larger fonts.

But to be clear, Lap+ should be using the same font as the native field. It's just that the font size is bigger. (Probably the same size as a native 4-field layout, but with 6 fields)
