I just put this on my Fenix 3. It looks awesome...for the first 6 seconds. Then all of the icons and the second hand disappear. They will reappear if I switch screens..but then disappear after 6 seconds.

I'm afraid that's how custom watch faces are supposed to work. The system only allows updates every second for a limited time, then the watch switches to an update each minute to save battery. The built-in watch faces are the only watch faces that are allowed to update every second.

Long/technical explanation in this thread: https://forums.garmin.com/showthread.php?174527-Watchface-with-Seconds&p=455494

Okay thanks. Hope it will change to allow you to have full function of your watch face. Reminds me of the Apple approach..you CAN customize your device but only a little bit. LOL
  • Just to explain a bit further. If the app is developed to support gestures, the elements you see disappear (e.g. the second hand) will reappear when you check the time. The assumption is that those elements will only be necessary when someone is looking at the watch. Of course, if you're wanting to use the second hand for longer periods (say for timing something, checking a pulse, etc.) this doesn't work well. :) It's a compromise that we chose to try to provide the best experience while offering the best battery life possible.
  • Very nice, finally a watch face with roman numbering ;-) I would love the second hand to be displayed at all time (I don't care about the battery) and in white... and how about a little moonphase display (like on a IWC, as sample) that really would top it ;-)
  • I would love the second hand to be displayed at all time (I don't care about the battery) and in white...

The developer can implement exactly what you want, except the second hand will stop moving 6 seconds after you look at the watch face and it will update once a minute after that until you put your arm down and back up.

Note: This post is a joke. I know that the developer has implemented onEnterSleep()/onExitSleep() to show the seconds hand. I'm saying that he could choose to always display a second hand as the user requested, but in doing so the second hand would not animate most of the time (and would be useless).

I have implemented the onExitSleep() and onEnterSleep() functions to show seconds when the user moves his hand and the watch exits low power mode, there's not much else I can do regarding the display of the second hand I'm afraid...
I can upload an updated version with a white second hand to see how it looks. In a future version I hope the API will make user configured colors possible.
Moonphase I'll have to think about, I would like the faces as clean as possible :)
  • Love the update, thank you! Regarding the moonphase, don't worry it's just a tic of mine... and I have to wear my other watches once in a while too ;-)
  • I really like this simplicity design. Unfortunately, after it gets to the watch, the muted colors (when indoors / not direct sunlight) it really leaves a lot to be desired. (comment is on the watch and not the watch face design)

After using Simplicity:Roman for a while on my own watch, I did a few changes to improve readability. Details in first post in thread.
