gimporter/gexporter - import FIT/GPX courses from your Android phone

This is the support thread of "gimporter" and the android companion app "gexporter".

Imagine you are on the go and want to upload a course to your Garmin device to follow the track. As of now, this involves uploading the gpx file to the Garmin web site, somehow create a course from it and then select "Export to device" in the mobile app.

Here comes gimporter. Download your FIT and GPX courses with the "gimporter" ConnectIQ app from the "Download" folder of your Android device.

Notes:

  • Keep the Android app open, while downloading!
  • Oregon and Rino devices download the unmodified GPX track. No point reduction or speed recalculation is done yet
  • On some devices (like the Edge 1030) you have to disable WiFi while using the app

  • When i insert the gpx to the GC website i must  give it a Name.

If i don't do that the track is named "Unbenannt" i'm from germany.

This "Unbenannt" is then also shown in GC App.

I know what you mean, but it would be easier to have it wireles Slight smile

  • Where are you getting the GPX file from?

The name of the track is data inside the file. It would seem your GPX files are missing that internal name.

GPX files on the device can't be uploaded wirelessly. The IQ system (that the developers use) doesn't allow it.

  • Hi, it doesn't work anymore since Garmin released the new firmware. I've checked with a friend who also has a forerunner 945 and he confirmed the app is now broken. It displays tracks (the ones sent from gexporter on mobile) but clicking on "Download" fails. It just displays "Downloading" but nothing happens (I've left the download during 15 min without any change). Will you fix the issue? Thx

  • It was working,

A new version of GCM was released today, which looks like it broke localhost again. As I use GRouteLoader, which can also link to Gexporter & that doesn't work either

  • Can't get it to work... Thinking is there a step by step guide? Forerunner 945

  • Make sure the gexporter app is showing on your phone. After making sure that Garmin Connect Mobile is running.

The Android app will list the files that you can download from your Garmin device.

Some devices use FIT files; some devices use GPX. Gexporter will convert gpx files to fit (I think it's only one way). Try having a fit file and a gpx file to download but make sure they have different names (that way, you'll figure out which your device needs).

  • Thanks dpawlyk, Was doing that but Garmin device was saying disconnected. Now I can get it to link and show a file on the Garmin device but it just shows 'Dowloading' and doesn't progress? Thinking

  • I have the same issue and yes data is part of the file name? Any solution?

  • That's a shame, so my file name has 'data' in it but I also can't get the download to complete... Any thoughts/ solutions?

  • Does downloading from any app work?

The downloading code isn't in the app. It's part of IQ that Evey app uses.

There was a post from 24 days ago that indicated that downloading to the 946 was broken.

    Maybe, that hasn't been fixed.

Try to provide more detail about your problem next time.

"I can't get it to work" isn't really useful.
