App: START TO RUN

The schedule is a 10 week run/walk schedule with 3 lessons per week.

Advice:
  • Try to run in an even pace (run slow enough so you can keep up this pace!)
  • Walk in a way that you are active but also recuperate enough to handle the next running block
  • Take (at least) one day of rest after each lesson!
  • Treat the schedule as a guideline (take extra rest when you feel too tired!)
  • Consult a doctor to take a cardiogram is a wise thing to do
Trivia:
  • This is the schedule that taught me how to run. Back in the day I couldn't run 500 meters, now I'm running ultramarathons... so this schedule worked wonders for me... I'm pretty sure it will also enable you to take up running, which is the reason I wrote this app for the Garmin Connect IQ platform.

Download:

The apps are free to use indefinitely but donations are encouraged from within the apps with a small encouragement text.
  • hi Scott, vibrations also work on the vivoactive 3, but the vibrations on that device are very weak (especially from within connect iq apps)... It helps a little bit if you set the vibrations to high in the system menu of the watch....

Thanks Peter, I'll get her to try that and let you know how it goes

    Hi peterdedecker
I started your training program with my girlfriend last week and so far we are really satisfied with your app. Good job.
I only have one question. Is there a table available of the exact schedule of each training day? We would like to know beforehand how long the intervals are because the app only shows the overall running and walking time of the training and the next interval when using it.

    Hi Peter,

My husband asked you about vibrations on my Vivoactive 3 watch. My vibrations were set to high in the main settings. I have since been into the 'start to run' app settings on my phone and changed the vibration strength level to 100 (it was set to 50) and i can feel it a little now but it is quite weak, whether it will be noticeable when running or not i don't know. I will test next time i'm out. When i start the built in Garmin activities like Run, Walk etc, it vibrates quite strongly on start and pause etc.
  • hmm yes, maybe I should make the 100 vibrationstrength the default... there's also the vibrationlength you can tune (defaults to 200ms)

Voice run/walk notifications when using bluetooth headphones?

i am new to the garmin wearables and app, but with the new music watches (fenix 5 plus) i am hoping to leave my phone at home while running.
previously i had used a 0-5k app on my iphone that gave voice notification to tell me to run and walk while listening to my music.
i also noticed i can set the watch to give me voice notifications of current speed or other things at set intervals. this notification mutes the music for a moment to give the information.
if this is possible i was wondering if it was possible to add a voice notification to run/walk while using bluetooth head phones. this could be in place of or in conjunction with the vibration notification on the watch.

the vibration works but the voice notification was really nice when i used similar app on my phone.

i hope i explained that properly.

    thanks.
  • I concur that it'd be useful but playing/controlling mp3s from non music apps or issuing text to speech instructions is not possible in connect iq
