App: START TO RUN

The schedule is a 10 week run/walk schedule with 3 lessons per week.

Advice:
  • Try to run in an even pace (run slow enough so you can keep up this pace!)
  • Walk in a way that you are active but also recuperate enough to handle the next running block
  • Take (at least) one day of rest after each lesson!
  • Treat the schedule as a guideline (take extra rest when you feel too tired!)
  • Consult a doctor to take a cardiogram is a wise thing to do
Trivia:
  • This is the schedule that taught me how to run. Back in the day I couldn't run 500 meters, now I'm running ultramarathons... so this schedule worked wonders for me... I'm pretty sure it will also enable you to take up running, which is the reason I wrote this app for the Garmin Connect IQ platform.

The apps are free to use indefinitely but donations are encouraged from within the apps with a small encouragement text.

Nice...would love to have Evy on the Fenix 5 too :o

Waiting for the 10K...just today is my last workout for Evy's 5K...

Can I buy you a beer
  • @discerning: The round devices (amongst others fenix5) are up next, eventually I plan to support all watch-types.

@OnlyTwo: The 10k app is planned too, but I need to program quite a bit of extra functionality for it. Plan is to do this after implementation of all the watch-types. :)
  • Released version 1.1:
    * Added support for all round watches (d2 bravo (titanium), forerunner 935, fenix 3 (hr), fenix 5, fenix 5s, fenix 5x, fenix chronos, quatix, quatix 5)

All these layouts were tested in the device simulator (so it might need some tuning to make it look good on a real device). I don't have any of these watches, so please take a picture when you have a layout adjustment suggestion. Thanks :)

Test on Fenix 5 non sapphire FW330

Running STR 5K indoors it got GPS lock (power drain)
Initial text layout is ok and inside screen boundaries
"HR" label above HR value is higlighted and not readable (low contrast)

Something to think about :o or to tinker with
Layout in Window with block timeleft:
    >>>Switch places run/walk and timer
    >>>Remove label "TIMER" or position the label "TIMER" above the block timeleft

Next block text "(no next block)" is out of screen bounderies on both sides:
    >>>Suggest replace the text "(no next block)" with Evy saying "WELL DONE" or "END" or "ALMOST DONE"

At the end of a workout the text (PRESS STOP) is out of screen bounderies on the left.(not centered)

    Text layout:
    >>>show text without the parenthesis

    ps
    CIQ or FW bug ?
    >>>Pressing down button while app is running switches to a Garmin standard watchface instead of the activated ">watchface SC7">watchface SC7
  • thanks for the feedback! I'll have a look to implement your suggestions.

    > "HR" label above HR value is higlighted and not readable (low contrast)
the label has a heart rate zone indicator, when you're in zone 0 (because you're inside the house) the back color is light gray, as it progresses to zone 1 it becomes green etc... to give an indication how hard you're pushing...

    > CIQ or FW bug ?
    > Pressing down button while app is running switches to a Garmin standard watchface instead of the activated watchface SC7
the down button has only been implemented on the "choose lesson" screen where you can press up/down to choose next or previous lesson, on other screens pressing the down button should have no effect... but if I understand you correctly when you press down you see a clock face and exit my app???

< ok...that is as it should be

< up/down buttons are working as they should in "choose lesson" screen
< yes...standard Garmin clock face after a "long" press down button
< and than you can scroll up-down through the other widgets too, your app is still running
< while in this mode by pressing the start button your app
< scrolling to a custom widget you get a text on screen showing the name of the widget "Temps" and "START to view.(Start To Run will be stopped.)"
< going back to your app by pressing back button or pressing start button

I can mimic this above behaviour starting a "Treadmill" activity.
But leaving the activity by long press down button shows me my custom watchface SC7 instead of as in your custom app the default Garmin watchface.

And what about indoor vs outdoor regarding GPS lock indoors.
  • > And what about indoor vs outdoor regarding GPS lock indoors.
I (currently) don't have intentions to make an indoor version of the start to run app

    > ... leaving the activity by long press down button ...
I have no influence on that behaviour from within my app, so most likely it's a fenix5 bug (or a crash of your watchface, you might try if you have the behaviour with another custom watchface)

    Released version 1.2:
    Fenix 5 layout adjustments:
    * Switch places of RUN/WALK indicator with timer block
    * Centered DONE! (PRESS STOP) and made the font size of the "hint" a bit smaller
    * Replaced "(no next block)" by "Last Block!" and "Well done!"
