Erg IQ

Installation & Configuration

ErgIQ can be installed from the Connect IQ store using the link below. Once installed, a limited set of application settings are available for the user to adjust. These settings as well as the pairing procedure are outlined in the user manual.

Requirements

ErgIQ will connect to a compatible fitness equipment system, the following is currently supported:

  • Concept2 Rower/SkiErg with PM5 (Firmware v22.015/156/722 or greater)

Known Issues

This is a BETA and therefore it has some items being worked through. For issues relating to FIT recording, pairing or Garmin Connect, even if they are listed here please report that you have the issue as well. This will help accurately determine the scale of the problem.

  • workout metrics are incorrect: distance, calories, stroke count (upgrade PM5 to BETA v22.014 or greater using C2 Utility if your comfortable doing this, otherwise it will be fixed in the next release)
  • Fenix3, FR920XT, and vivoactive HR have issues pairing (see post #4 for temporary workarounds until resolved)
  • vivoactive doesn't save last lap and session data correctly (issue being investigated)
  • Garmin Connect doesn't integrate developer FIT fields using native number mapping for summary, laps, or record fields

Non-Garmin FIT Analysis Sites

ErgIQ takes advantage of the newer defined developer FIT fields. These fields are a new standard that are not currently recognized at all non-Garmin sites. The following sites are known to work but others may work as well, this is not an exhaustive listing:

ErgIQ Reviews or Other Information

  • rowingmusings ErgIQ Review - Review
  • Vahr

Thanks for the feedback, the images show what I would expect given the way Connect currently handles developer data in the FIT file. Although this isn't optimal the FIT file can be used at some third party sites to fully analyze the data. As for power, I'm hoping to have that released in some form in the near future, I know users are looking for it.

I also noticed a big improvement in VAHR pairing since FW 3.40 not perfect but sustainable!
However I stil don't understand why the native HR (and elevation/barometric) data are ok and why the native stroke rate is completely erroneous? In the basic Garmin indoor rowing app the stroke rate is ok and well correlated to PM5 stroke rate.
Maybe Garmin should give access to their specific algorithms for computing stroke rate to IQ app developers. Not only for rowing but swimming etc..

    Version IDs

I'm not sure of the version numbers. I just updated the FW for the PM5 from 153 to 155 where you and others have references version 22. There was also a Beta but it was lower that the current release it was 155.xx.

There are two hardware revisions for the PM5 with the two firmware being the most current with respect to the ANT+FE needed for the application: PM5 v22.015 or v156. Either of these will be the current best for the ErgIQ application.

Got it... thanks for the info. I am actually on 156. Loving the app so far.

    Today's issues

    So I am running:
    PM5 FW V156
    HDW V 613

    ERG Beta 13
    FR 230

Today I could not get the app to display any data whatsoever. I would get the 'ROW' icon displaying indicating that there was a connection but that was all. For clarity I am trying to use the ERGData app in conjunction with the ERGIQ app on the FR 230 and had done so successfully with Beta 12.

I also attempted just connecting the FR230 / ErgIQ app and the PM5 without using the Ergdata app also with a reboot of the fr230 but it still didn't work. Happy to try any suggestions you may have.
    Thanks

    I made this workout :
    1000m
    1000m
    1000m/30" rec
    10*90"/30" rec
    1000m
After the first 3000m and 30" rec, the app crashed and iq! Logo appeared

I use 3 Garmin devices with Erg App : Edge 520, VAHR and F3. Edge 520 is perfect, VAHR needs some in/out for pairing but works perfectly afterwards ; F3 is the most sensitive : very difficult to pair if other Ant sensors are activated, and sometimes crash unexpectedly after some parts of interval workouts.
I don't think that Garmin will put much efforts in F3 FW and CIQ 1.xx now that F5 is out.

By the way do you define your customs workouts directly on the Pm5? Because I use rowpro to define customs workout (mostly interval distance based + rest) : but Erg App saved and reset display after each rowpro interval, slicing in multiple workouts and .fit files. Curiously if I used Painsled IOS App via BLE or USB with the same Rowpro customs workout I got only one workout with the intervals/rest as Laps.
I never tried Liverowing I would be curious of the behavior with Erg App on interval based workouts.

The set up is the one I wrote before. With time intervals, no problems, with mixed time/distance intervals, the Fenix crashed
  • Release: 1.0.0-beta-14

A new release has been pushed out hopefully resolving the interval "IQ!" crash issue. Please report back if it is working or if it is still broken or something else broke.
