Erg IQ

Installation & Configuration

ErgIQ can be installed from the Connect IQ store using the link below. Once installed, a limited set of application settings are available for the user to adjust. These settings as well as the pairing procedure are outlined in the user manual.

Requirements

ErgIQ will connect to a compatible fitness equipment system, the following is currently supported:

  • Concept2 Rower/SkiErg with PM5 (Firmware v22.015/156/722 or greater)

Known Issues

This is a BETA and therefore it has some items being worked through. For issues relating to FIT recording, pairing or Garmin Connect, even if they are listed here please report that you have the issue as well. This will help accurately determine the scale of the problem.

  • workout metrics are incorrect: distance, calories, stroke count (upgrade PM5 to BETA v22.014 or greater using C2 Utility if your comfortable doing this, otherwise it will be fixed in the next release)
  • Fenix3, FR920XT, and vivoactive HR have issues pairing (see post #4 for temporary workarounds until resolved)
  • vivoactive doesn't save last lap and session data correctly (issue being investigated)
  • Garmin Connect doesn't integrate developer FIT fields using native number mapping for summary, laps, or record fields

Non-Garmin FIT Analysis Sites

ErgIQ takes advantage of the newer defined developer FIT fields. These fields are a new standard that are not currently recognized at all non-Garmin sites. The following sites are known to work but others may work as well, this is not an exhaustive listing:

  • Dear Icj2,
I have downloaded your app but after launching the app on my ForeRunner 235, I get systematically "Ant Failed CIQ Error".
I found only one post related to this issue but unfortunately without solution. What should I do to benefit from your application ?
    thank you for your answer.

That particular error indicates that no ANT channels are available for use on the device. I've not heard of the FR235 having this issue, are you using the most recent version of the FW on the device and the PM5?
  • So I can pair to an ANT device on my PM5 and it gets my HR from the 735XT, but ErqIQ seems oblivious and never asks me to confirm the pairing or anything. Any ideas would be appreciated for this fat newbie here.

    Thanks in advance.
  • Hi Garmin,
Love that you’ve made it possible to connect a watch to SkiErg!
I’m just having issues with the distance not being saved after each workout. Everything including the distance is shown while stroking but disappears afterwards.
Im using a Garmin Fenix 5x.

    Is this fixable?

I assume you have the latest firmware for the PM5 and watch at this point and followed the steps in the manual: http://www.dropbox.com/s/0nt5l6s8hghkgeq/ErgIQ-UserManual-v1.0.1.pdf?dl=1

If you've done those things, can you outline the steps you're using at this point and the order you do them.

Can you PM me a link to an activity to view to see what you're seeing?
  • @lcj2,
Really like what you're doing with ErgIQ! Connection between FR935 to PM5 was easy. The data you present on the watch face is great! The data presented in Connect not so great. Is there any hope that the integration problem between ConnectIQ apps and Garmin activities will get sorted soon? It's really a bummer to see all the great IQ data and charts in Connect all cluttered up with the junk data and charts that Garmin adds to the picture. I suppose the first step would be to at least get IQ distance to propagate to the Activity distance. Can you give us any reason to be optimistic that G will cooperate? Thanks! /M
  • Hi.

I like this app alot but there's a big discrepancy between HR from my Fenix3HR with HRM-band and the ErgIQ HR. I feel the ErgIQ is the correct one, based on my experience, and it's the same thar both the BikeErg (PM5) and the app showed on my Fenix3HR during the session. Buy still after upload to GC it’s another number? What could be the cause of this? See attached screenshots where the HR differs alot.community.garmin.com/.../1374522.png

I have seen this behaviour on my watch too. Seems that under certain/unknown conditionsthe the optical heart rate monitor (oHR) doesn't get deactivated when another HRM (e.g. chest strap) is activated. So both channels are recorded. Seems that GC favourites the built-in (oHR) over an external.

BTW: I found the oHR of the F3HR very poor (https://analyze.dcrainmaker.com/#/public/e8b9c93a-7644-42bb-4f2a-82ee40c894ca, https://analyze.dcrainmaker.com/#/public/e04d453f-c882-43d5-5294-85c80d80b121, https://analyze.dcrainmaker.com/#/public/322c72b5-8075-46d3-65a6-cdc41f086920) and have disabled it totally.

What is most likely happening is that you need to turn on in the settings to use the Garmin connected HR source. This will turn on the HR sensor on the watch which should then connect to your HRM. You'll still want to pair your HR strap with the PM5 but it will give you what you want. As you've found, the wrist HR is junk for rowing and way off base. Once you change that setting it should look like this for the two HR recordings:
