Erg IQ

Installation & Configuration

ErgIQ can be installed from the Connect IQ store using the link below. Once installed, a limited set of application settings are available for the user to adjust. These settings as well as the pairing procedure are outlined in the user manual.

Requirements

ErgIQ will connect to a compatible fitness equipment system, the following is currently supported:

  • Concept2 Rower/SkiErg with PM5 (Firmware v22.015/156/722 or greater)

Known Issues

This is a BETA and therefore it has some items being worked through. For issues relating to FIT recording, pairing or Garmin Connect, even if they are listed here please report that you have the issue as well. This will help accurately determine the scale of the problem.

  • workout metrics are incorrect: distance, calories, stroke count (upgrade PM5 to BETA v22.014 or greater using C2 Utility if your comfortable doing this, otherwise it will be fixed in the next release)
  • Fenix3, FR920XT, and vivoactive HR have issues pairing (see post #4 for temporary workarounds until resolved)
  • vivoactive doesn't save last lap and session data correctly (issue being investigated)
  • Garmin Connect doesn't integrate developer FIT fields using native number mapping for summary, laps, or record fields

Non-Garmin FIT Analysis Sites

ErgIQ takes advantage of the newer defined developer FIT fields. These fields are a new standard that are not currently recognized at all non-Garmin sites. The following sites are known to work but others may work as well, this is not an exhaustive listing:

ErgIQ Reviews or Other Information

  • Hi does anyone have problems with drop outs? My PM5 and both my old Fenix 5x and now my Chronos always drop the IQ a short time into the workout. You can see on the attached image the IQ dropped out just before 5 minutes. The Concept Flywheel was still going this is not a power-save pausing issue. I notice the drop out when the heart rate stops showing on the PM5 monitor.

The Garmin heart rate keeps going as does the in-effective stroke rate.

I have tried a few things - two different watches, pairing with the Concept Rower ID - both the last four digits and the whole number.

Pairing without a number at all and clicking 'yes' when asked on the watch.

Also taking the heart rate from the watch not the PM5.

The drop outs always occur every work out.

I am on the latest PM5 firmware version 25 (September, 2017).
  • I had the same problem, but since I do not couple my heart rate sensor to the PM5 it is working again.

Thanks I will give that a try. I thought it was something to do with the heart rate monitor dropping out.
  • Hi. I discover with my concept 2 PM5 and my garmin 935 how to do for to be able to see the heart rate into concept and into erg app for garmin. I show you guys how to do in a video. I don't know if you already knows how to do.

    Sorry for my neanderthal english

  • Alberto: Thank you for putting the video together - your English is great compared to my Spanish. I too use the ERGiQ app. In terms of setup, if I chose to use my 935, I put it in the optional quick release kit, attach a Garmin bike mount to the main support of the C2 in front of my feet and twist the 935 on to the C2 so I can check the data screens whilst rowing and also ensure I know if/when the ERGiQ app crashes. For HR I wear a strap.

  • I just tried the ErgIQ for the first time, and I must have done something wrong. First, I attached my phone to the PM5 via cable and then tried to pair my vivoactiveHR with the PM5 using ErgIQ. Didn't work. So, I removed the phone and tried again, and it paired just fine. I started to row. The App started up just as expected (a very nice feature). I got the end of the rowing session, and pressed menu to I would see the hourglass for saving. ErgIQ shut down and gave me a save dialog. Saved and all looked good. Tried to sync it by direct cable to my laptop via Garmin Express. My run and my first rowing sessions synced. My ErgIQ rowing session gave me a big red flashing dialog box, that there was something wrong with the sync. OK, fine.. it's beta. I tried to sync to my phone. No go. When I checked the session on the watch, all the details were gone. The App appears to have worked, but something I did messed up the data upload. Any ideas or suggestions? I also have a garmin foot pod on the same watch, since I go for a run right after a rowing session.

    Thanks for any response.

I dropped you an email, we'll work through it the best we can.
  • The Erg IQ application doesn't send the HR to the PM5. First you need to begin broadcasting your HR by either simply putting on the HR belt or enabling the FR235 to broadcast the wrist based HR. The wrist HR can be enabled following the Garmin guide: http://www8.garmin.com/manuals/webhelp/forerunner235/EN-US/GUID-0C4E7DFB-E1C4-4EA8-885B-4DF88B3CD341.html. Once the HR is being broadcast you can follow the Concept2 guide for connecting it to the PM5: http://www.concept2.com/service/heart-rate-equipment/garmin-and-suunto/how-to-use/pairing-chest-belt-pm4-or-pm5. Hope this helps!

This worked for me, and I am able to get my heart rate to display on the PM5. However, when I try to go back to the Erg IQ app, heart rate broadcasting stops, so once I get to the app, it is no longer on the PM5. I am using a Forerunner 235. Is there a way to make this work on a 235?
  • Same for me: I use a FR935. Broadcast works, but as soon as I go back to ErgIQ, broadcast stops. But isn't that what I confirm, when I exit the Heartrate widget ("Stop broadcast").
So I don´t get why your FR935 continues to broadcast...
  • Issue with Edge 520 FW 12.60:
after upgrade to FW 12.60 my Edge 520 with Erg IQ 1.3.2 stuck after 5 sec rowing. Maybe some issue with BLE/ANT connection or CIQ 2.4.4?
