Erg IQ

Installation & Configuration

ErgIQ can be installed from the Connect IQ store using the link below. Once installed, a limited set of application settings are available for the user to adjust. These settings as well as the pairing procedure are outlined in the user manual.

Requirements

ErgIQ will connect to a compatible fitness equipment system, the following is currently supported:

  • Concept2 Rower/SkiErg with PM5 (Firmware v22.015/156/722 or greater)

Known Issues

This is a BETA and therefore it has some items being worked through. For issues relating to FIT recording, pairing or Garmin Connect, even if they are listed here please report that you have the issue as well. This will help accurately determine the scale of the problem.

  • workout metrics are incorrect: distance, calories, stroke count (upgrade PM5 to BETA v22.014 or greater using C2 Utility if your comfortable doing this, otherwise it will be fixed in the next release)
  • Fenix3, FR920XT, and vivoactive HR have issues pairing (see post #4 for temporary workarounds until resolved)
  • vivoactive doesn't save last lap and session data correctly (issue being investigated)
  • Garmin Connect doesn't integrate developer FIT fields using native number mapping for summary, laps, or record fields

Non-Garmin FIT Analysis Sites

ErgIQ takes advantage of the newer defined developer FIT fields. These fields are a new standard that are not currently recognized at all non-Garmin sites. The following sites are known to work but others may work as well, this is not an exhaustive listing:

I'll PM you a link for a development build and instructions in the next couple days to see if we can get this narrowed down.
  • First off, thanks for an amazing app. I know hours must have gone into it. I have finally mostly got it working for me (Foreruner735XT, latest C2 firmware) but have found the saved data empty of everything except the total time. The watch screen displays the workout data, but the watch history then shows only the duration of the activity and nothing else. (For ages I thought the watch screen was blank until I realised the default setting was for a *white* screen!) Any ideas?

On the watch it currently doesn't do anything with the data the application collects and what you are seeing is expected. There isn't anything I can do about that.
  • Hey there,

I?m using ErgIQ with PM5 latest firmware. Basically works, but all workouts in Garmin Connect have a 0 distance. I see that this has been discusses here already, but what is the actual status, is this still expected, or is something wrong with my setup?

    best regards,

    kc

Garmin Connect doesn't use the data from ErgIQ for distance and other elements. This is a limitation of the Connect platform and not the application itself. All of the information is recorded in the Connect IQ section on the bottom of the activity page.
  • C2 PM5 FW 24.0 (released mid -september) tested with ERG IQ 1.2.2 : everything (VAHR, F3, EDGE 520) works fine!
No change also in pairing behaviour for the 3 devices (immediate with EDGE 520; after 2 pairing tries with VAHR; after a certain number of tries [3 ... 10] for F3

I will test PM5 FW beta 24.001 as, it is mentioned in the version release log an introduction of "ANT+ profile" (?)
Also I will check if any improvement with FW 24 with ERG IQ and Rowpro custom interval workout
    --------------------------
[Oct 15] I tried with C2 PM5 FW 25 and Beta FW 25.001 (that has a strange "ANT display" with only two black dots ...), and both works ok with ErG IQ.
  • Weighted rowing power :
Now in Fit File Repair Tool Version 8.3.2 (10/07/2017) you can correct the speed and distance of the indoor rowing workout, and then the power, taking into your weight. the same way as it is computed and displayed in Ergdata C2 App.
interesting if you want to compare Power in different sports (bike, running or rowing).
With Erg IQ you shall first copy the developer data (speed, distance, and optional cadence and power fields) to the equivalent native fields. Works well but avoid interval distance workouts with rest (without rowing) as it does not work well from ERG IQ
  • How come RowPro and ErgIQ do not work together properly? Would be nice to have the best of both worlds... I keep getting the IQ-Screen Error on my F5 every time a session on RowPro actally starts.
    Thanks!
  • Will it be possible to have the heart rate, calories etc in the summary and main fields in Garmin connect? ( In the future )
  • First off, thanks a lot for this app. It definitely fills a gap and does so very well.

This is a two-part post: 1) the setup that I (successfully) use and 2) two questions/requests.

    Setup
I am using a Fenix 5 Sapphire together with a Concept2 PM5 and a Wahoo TickrX heart rate strap. Here's what I did (in chronological order):
    • connect HR strap to the PM5 --> as the Wahoo TickrX transmits both ANT+ and Bluetooth, the PM5 will show two heart rate belts being available. I chose the Bluetooth one (named Tickr X 12345)
    • open Erg IQ on the watch --> it doesn't show anything other than 0's for the moment
    • on the PM5, activate wireless and select ANT+
    • after a couple of seconds, my watch showed a prompt whether or not I would like to pair with the PM5 (a 4-digit number); the PM5 doesn't show anything
    • that's it, ready to go
    A couple of tips/findings:
    • In order to get the HR on the watch, one has to connect the HR strap to the PM5, simply selecting the strap as a source on the watch won't do it.
    • as Erg IQ will automatically save when the PM5 shows the "default" screen, one should program the entire workout up-front
      • For example If one were to do 3 x 6000m, then one would - after the above set-up process - go to select workout, intervals distance, set distance to 6000 and rest to a self-defined value. Then, one would simply do as many of those 6000m intervals as one feels like and after the last one hit the "menu" button on the PM5, upon which Erg IQ will automatically save the workout

    • automatic syncing between Garmin Connect and TrainingPeaks works like a charm, all metrics are there: power, pace, stroke rate etc. and even lap/rest times
    Questions/Requests:
    • is it possible to set HR alerts as in the other apps?
    • is it possible to use the power data for the "Performance Condition" feature that the Fenix5 (and a few other watches) has?
Thanks a lot and keep it up!
  • Will it be possible to have the heart rate, calories etc in the summary and main fields in Garmin connect? ( In the future )

The data is currently all there. This is strictly a function of if/when Garmin chooses to honor developer data in Connect. If you use sites like Training Peaks and SportTracks, they are already using this data.
