Erg IQ

Installation & Configuration

ErgIQ can be installed from the Connect IQ store using the link below. Once installed, a limited set of application settings are available for the user to adjust. These settings as well as the pairing procedure are outlined in the user manual.

Requirements

ErgIQ will connect to a compatible fitness equipment system, the following is currently supported:

  • Concept2 Rower/SkiErg with PM5 (Firmware v22.015/156/722 or greater)

Known Issues

This is a BETA and therefore it has some items being worked through. For issues relating to FIT recording, pairing or Garmin Connect, even if they are listed here please report that you have the issue as well. This will help accurately determine the scale of the problem.

  • workout metrics are incorrect: distance, calories, stroke count (upgrade PM5 to BETA v22.014 or greater using C2 Utility if your comfortable doing this, otherwise it will be fixed in the next release)
  • Fenix3, FR920XT, and vivoactive HR have issues pairing (see post #4 for temporary workarounds until resolved)
  • vivoactive doesn't save last lap and session data correctly (issue being investigated)
  • Garmin Connect doesn't integrate developer FIT fields using native number mapping for summary, laps, or record fields

Non-Garmin FIT Analysis Sites

ErgIQ takes advantage of the newer defined developer FIT fields. These fields are a new standard that are not currently recognized at all non-Garmin sites. The following sites are known to work but others may work as well, this is not an exhaustive listing:

A new release has been pushed out hopefully resolving the interval "IQ!" crash issue. Please report back if it is working or if it is still broken or something else broke.

I recently upgraded my PM5 monitor to the newest beta firmware available in the Concept2 Utility (version 22 build 23). Previously when using earlier versions of the beta firmware I was able to connect my fenix 3 to the monitor and obtain data after completing a workout in Connect. I've tried cycling power on/off on the watch prior to enabling the wireless connection on the PM5 followed by selecting the Erg IQ app; however I now receive the "IQ!" symbol on the watch face.

Any ideas on what to do next?

    PM5 hardware version 502
    PM5 firmware version 22 (Beta build 23)

    fenix 3
    sw version 8.20
    display 3.50
    GPS version 3.00
    BLE/ANT 3.60
    WiFi 2.00
    CIQ 1.4.2

Well I have finally had some luck with getting the app to work for me but I had downgraded from the pm5 beta firmware to the v22 version and that seems to be working for me. When I had the latest pm5 beta firmware I kept getting the IQ symbol as soon as the row was programmed. As with the other posters I have all the pertinent info from the pm5 being recorded to Garmin Connect via my f5s but no distances in the fit file. It would be great to see the session data stored on the watch after the rows, something to look forward to as the tech advances i am keeping my fingers crossed. To the developer thank you for your hard work.

How did you perform the downgrade?

Is it possible to obtain an earlier version of Erg IQ? I recall versions 10 and 12 working well with the fenix 3. The "IQ!" screen is all I get now when I try to connect...

I'm out of band at the moment but this is more likely a issue with the FWv22 downgrade than the version of ErgIQ. I'll track down what I can but I would suggest if you can get it the PM5 v22.015 beta firmware at this time.

The C2 utility offers you the upgraded beta firmware or you can choose to reinstall version 22, so after I had installed the beta firmware and kept receiving the IQ icon as a workout was about to start I decided to downgrade back to version 22 and take my chances. It has been working almost every first attempt so far with version v22 and I am using a f5s with firmware 2.4, we will see if this continues to work.

Thanks! I got in touch with C2; turns out the downgrade is only available when directly connected to the PM5 via USB cable, and this option is not available using the USB key.

I got in touch with C2 and performed a downgrade to general release version 22 to try out with the most recent Erg IQ version available in ConnectIQ. I can confirm that after trying the new PM5 firmware with multiple power-off/on cycles that I still receive "IQ!" message when attempting to pair my fenix 3 with the PM5. The PM5 is broadcasting and the light is flashing on the back. I am waiting to hear back from C2 regarding the possibility of obtaining v22.015 beta firmware.

    Thanks!

I've been in touch with the developer for the PM5 firmware; he stated that the versions v22.015 wouldn't make a difference in my situation, regardless...

On his suggestions, after cycling power on/off (which I had previously done to no avail) I deleted and re-installed the Erg IQ application. This seems to have worked. I can confirm that on the general release version 22 I am able to connect the fenix 3 with the PM5, row, and record the data to Garmin Connect using Erg IQ app.

I have not tried out v22.015 or v22.023 (part of me is saying, if it works, why fix it?) but I just wanted to know out of curiosity how much of a difference (and what) these versions make for you with regards to the code and functionality of Erg IQ.

Thanks again for your help and for developing this app! I think the rowing community is an underserved population within the Garmin ecosystem and I'm looking forward to future iterations of Erg IQ!
  • Any chance that this is workable with the PM4? I know that it's not at the moment, but, is there a reason that it wouldn't do the ANT+ FE profile which is what I think the PM4 uses? I use my 310XT at the moment for rowing.

The advantage of the 310 connection using FE is you can get your distance data uploaded to GC, TP & Strava which currently doesn't happen using this App.....its not the apps fault because the data is there its the website developers not "seeing and using" the data in the file...... that at least is my understanding and is why I use my 310 with my PM5
