Erg IQ

Installation & Configuration

ErgIQ can be installed from the Connect IQ store using the link below. Once installed, a limited set of application settings are available for the user to adjust. These settings as well as the pairing procedure are outlined in the user manual.

Requirements

ErgIQ will connect to a compatible fitness equipment system, the following is currently supported:

  • Concept2 Rower/SkiErg with PM5 (Firmware v22.015/156/722 or greater)

Known Issues

This is a BETA and therefore it has some items being worked through. For issues relating to FIT recording, pairing or Garmin Connect, even if they are listed here please report that you have the issue as well. This will help accurately determine the scale of the problem.

  • workout metrics are incorrect: distance, calories, stroke count (upgrade PM5 to BETA v22.014 or greater using C2 Utility if your comfortable doing this, otherwise it will be fixed in the next release)
  • Fenix3, FR920XT, and vivoactive HR have issues pairing (see post #4 for temporary workarounds until resolved)
  • vivoactive doesn't save last lap and session data correctly (issue being investigated)
  • Garmin Connect doesn't integrate developer FIT fields using native number mapping for summary, laps, or record fields

Non-Garmin FIT Analysis Sites

ErgIQ takes advantage of the newer defined developer FIT fields. These fields are a new standard that are not currently recognized at all non-Garmin sites. The following sites are known to work but others may work as well, this is not an exhaustive listing:

A new release has been pushed out hopefully resolving the interval "IQ!" crash issue. Please report back if it is working or if it is still broken or something else broke.

Occasionally when I have multiple rowing workouts I get a failed to sync message. When I determine which rowing workout was 'bad' I delete it and the sync works. I presume o the bad workout (.fit) was corrupted in some way. I have attached the fit file that will not sync.

I opened your .Fit file with FFRT and there is no error except that Power field are empty in developer data fields [Erg IQ App] ; but distance, speed, heart rate, stroke rate values are here. normally all the IQ developer data fields are populated (not empty) at each 1sec timestamp?

Maybe some special behavior on the FR230, because the filling of the Erg IQ developer data field should be independent of the type of rowing workout (continuous, distance or time interval based)

    Hello,

Regarding power: I don't believe you directly addressed whether you will be integrating power data into the app or not. Is that in your current roadmap?

    Thanks!

Edit: apparently you did just a few posts ago, sorry!

    Hello,
So I just received my f5s and downloaded ErgIQ, I turned on the pm5 and selected the pairing number that appeared on the f5s and set up a 5k row but when i finished the row i had no data recorded on my f5s. Is there a step I missed in getting there to be recorded data?
    Regards
p.s. The f5s and pm5 are pairing you see the word row on the bottom of the erg iq datafield but when I start the row and watch nothing is being recorded

What's needed to make this work

Looks like this could be a great app, once I can make it work with my 735xt. I follow the guide but so far I haven't had any success connecting.
Do I need anything else but the PM5(with correct Firmware), my 735xt and the app to make it work?

You've verified that you are on the most current BETA PM5 software from Concept2? I've used it with a 735XT without issue so I would start there.

EDIT: After enabling the PM5 for broadcasting using the manual, does the light on the back of the PM5 blink?
  • I used this app for 2 day's. It looks nice...kudo's for the work.

Today it's the second time that, after saving my workout on my PM5, I got a discard message on my F3HR. (5x500m)
Most of the short trainings, it does the the job well.
But for now or at this moment, it's unreliable.

I have all latest firmware on my PM5(beta) and F3HR.
(using a wahoo tickr for HRM and the same time a V800)
No issues with connections or wathever.

I' m gonna try to use both, my F3 and F3HR at the same time.
    Post my results.

Jason: I rowed on a C2 with PM5 having latest firmware and software using the ERG iQ App paired to a Fenix5 and 935 also with latest software. Recordings and behaviour for both Garmin devices was identical except in the fit files there is no distance. The row structure was (without rest) 10x500m straight into 10x200m alternating fast easy. Both units showed a correct cumulative distance but didn't record into the fit file.....Both devices fit files also show each of the 20 intervals with a time but with zero distance. The PM5 workout was setup as 10x500+10x200 with no rest intervals. Same when uploaded to GC, TP & Strava.

Well I have finally had some luck with getting the app to work for me but I had downgraded from the pm5 beta firmware to the v22 version and that seems to be working for me. When I had the latest pm5 beta firmware I kept getting the IQ symbol as soon as the row was programmed. As with the other posters I have all the pertinent info from the pm5 being recorded to Garmin Connect via my f5s but no distances in the fit file. It would be great to see the session data stored on the watch after the rows, something to look forward to as the tech advances i am keeping my fingers crossed. To the developer thank you for your hard work.
  • Works on 5X...so close to being the perfect CIQ app!

I've had no issue running the app on my F5X, synced to PM5 with latest firmware.

I am able to also sync Painsled on ipad if I follow these steps:
    1. Connect HR Strap to PM5
    2. Connect F5X to PM5 via Ant+
    3. Open Painsled app on ipad
    4. Turn on wireless on PM5 to connect ipad (BT) running painsled.

    Just Row!

The only reason I still run painsled is to get a cleaner file into GC and Strava, with the distance and power data (Erg Fit only syncs time and HR).
I really hope you are successful in allowing the CIQ data fields to override the GC data fields in the FIT file so watch, GCM, and Strava all contain the correct metrics.

Cheers, and thanks for all your hard work. Would gladly donate if once Garmin allows this app to play nicely with the FIT file!
