Erg IQ

Installation & Configuration

ErgIQ can be installed from the Connect IQ store using the link below. Once installed, a limited set of application settings are available for the user to adjust. These settings as well as the pairing procedure are outlined in the user manual.

Requirements

ErgIQ will connect to a compatible fitness equipment system, the following is currently supported:

  • Concept2 Rower/SkiErg with PM5 (Firmware v22.015/156/722 or greater)

Known Issues

This is a BETA and therefore it has some items being worked through. For issues relating to FIT recording, pairing or Garmin Connect, even if they are listed here please report that you have the issue as well. This will help accurately determine the scale of the problem.

  • workout metrics are incorrect: distance, calories, stroke count (upgrade PM5 to BETA v22.014 or greater using C2 Utility if your comfortable doing this, otherwise it will be fixed in the next release)
  • Fenix3, FR920XT, and vivoactive HR have issues pairing (see post #4 for temporary workarounds until resolved)
  • vivoactive doesn't save last lap and session data correctly (issue being investigated)
  • Garmin Connect doesn't integrate developer FIT fields using native number mapping for summary, laps, or record fields

Non-Garmin FIT Analysis Sites

ErgIQ takes advantage of the newer defined developer FIT fields. These fields are a new standard that are not currently recognized at all non-Garmin sites. The following sites are known to work but others may work as well, this is not an exhaustive listing:

ErgIQ Reviews or Other Information

  • rowingmusings ErgIQ Review - Review
  • On the first post you have posted a sample report of SportTracks which also contains power data.
But this post you mention, that this data will be available in future versions.
Can you already give a hint when this will be?
Would it be possible to get access to the source code?

I'm currently working through the last reported issues with the application and performing some optimizations before moving forward as the BETA stage is the best time to do that. I'm aware of the desire to have this released with full functionality but want to make sure it is stable and functional for as many devices as possible. I'll do my best to have something available in the next couple weeks. There are no plans to release the source for this application.

    Great app

Hi, downloaded today to Garmin 235. Paired straight away all stats looked great and matched pm5 perfect. Except looking on Garmin connect I seem to have 2 lots of data. Hr and stroke rate which are miles out but then underneath that all the correct hr and stroke rate data which is correct (says IQ after it) am I doing something wrong. Apart from that amazing

Glad to hear it is working for you. You're not doing anything wrong, at this point Garmin Connect doesn't integrate the developer supplied data correctly and you end up with the conflicts you are seeing. These issue have been reported and hopefully we'll see things develop more completely. If you use Training Peaks or SportTracks the data is known to work fully there.

At least I know it's not me being an idiot. Great app hope all the niggles get sorted.
  • Intervals Variable Activity

    Hi,

I have tried the Intervals Variable activities but got some problems.
    Configuration:
    FR235:
    -> v7.10 + ANT 2.40.
Garmin HRM 3 Premium Heart Rate Monitor Chest Strap.
    - Only connected to the FR235 (not to the PM5).

    Concept2 PM5:
    - tested with v22 and beta v22 build 17.

    Activity:
    - 10x Distance intervals with 1000 meters each + 1 minute resting time.

Pairing with PM5 and FR235 works fine in the beginning.
After the first resting time and starting a new interval, I got the Erg App logo in the FR235 and the sync between the PM5 and FR235 is lost (light behind the PM5 started flashing in a higher rate). It looks like there is some kind of timeout due to the resting time.

BTW, other activities (no intervals) are working fine.

Same for me, as I already wrote.
Iq! Logo appeared. One time after the first recovery time, one time after the second.

Can you both send me the /GARMIN/APPS/LOGS/CIQ_LOG.TXT file on the device to review in PM?

Nice app but Garmin needs to fix some things

This app is on the edge of being amazing and might keep me from trading in a 235 for a 735, but the Garmin data is incorrect and doesn't use the ErgIQ info. The graphs created by the ErgIQ look to have the proper stroke rate, heart rate and distance, but the Garmin graphs don't have the proper heart rate or stroke rate. This mean all the analytical data reported by Garmin such as calories, stroke rate avg & max, heart rate avg & max and training effect are all wrong. The data is there, Garmin just needs to use it. Very frustrating and hard to track progress when this issue shouldn't exist. If this could be fixed, this app would be stellar.

For the time being it is not possible (with Connect IQ) to map developer data fields (Erg IQ) with native data field (HR, cadence, speed, distance, power, ..).
then in the meantime i use FFRT to map these fields in the Garmin .fit File.
Not very nice process but at least after this mapping you can display the rowing data on top in garmin connect.
