Erg IQ

Installation & Configuration

ErgIQ can be installed from the Connect IQ store using the link below. Once installed, a limited set of application settings are available for the user to adjust. These settings as well as the pairing procedure are outlined in the user manual.

Requirements

ErgIQ will connect to a compatible fitness equipment system, the following is currently supported:

  • Concept2 Rower/SkiErg with PM5 (Firmware v22.015/156/722 or greater)

Known Issues

This is a BETA and therefore it has some items being worked through. For issues relating to FIT recording, pairing or Garmin Connect, even if they are listed here please report that you have the issue as well. This will help accurately determine the scale of the problem.

  • workout metrics are incorrect: distance, calories, stroke count (upgrade PM5 to BETA v22.014 or greater using C2 Utility if your comfortable doing this, otherwise it will be fixed in the next release)
  • Fenix3, FR920XT, and vivoactive HR have issues pairing (see post #4 for temporary workarounds until resolved)
  • vivoactive doesn't save last lap and session data correctly (issue being investigated)
  • Garmin Connect doesn't integrate developer FIT fields using native number mapping for summary, laps, or record fields

Non-Garmin FIT Analysis Sites

ErgIQ takes advantage of the newer defined developer FIT fields. These fields are a new standard that are not currently recognized at all non-Garmin sites. The following sites are known to work but others may work as well, this is not an exhaustive listing:

  • Thanks for developing this app!

I currently have a PM4 and use a 310xt to sync the data. Before I go splurge on a PM5, is your app able to pull the power data from the monitor like the 310xt can?

    Thanks!

The easiest way is to configure the user settings to use the heart rate from the monitor and not that Garmin Device. This will ensure the Connect IQ recorded data is as you expect. The use of the Connect IQ data at this time won't replace Garmin data in Connect. Some watches have the ability to choose the strap over the wrist HRM but that is beyond the scope of this application and specific to each device.

I can't seem to get the chest strap data to Connect. The heart rate from the strap correctly shows both on the PM5 and the ErgIQ, but Connect uses the data from the optical sensor, no matter what I select as "Heart Rate Source" i the app settings. This worked in the previous beta version. I have a Forerunner 235. The Connect IQTm fields are still ok.

    - Heart Rate Source = Performance Monitor: https://connect.garmin.com/modern/activity/1522409863
    - Heart Rate Source = Garmin Device: https://connect.garmin.com/modern/activity/1516383969
    - Identical HR graphs, so at some point this has to have worked properly = https://connect.garmin.com/modern/activity/1514217245

What is the correct setup? I never want the wrist HR to appear on Connect, unless I don't wear my strap.
  • I had to re-install after upgrading to 1.0.0-BETA-12 due to the settings change. If that doesn't work let me know and we'll track it down. There isn't a great way to have release notes but I did make mention of it on the application page.

    Still the same problem.
With normal workout everything is ok

Can you outline the specific options you select for the workout so I can try and recreate this on my end? It will be helpful to specify the specific interval options used since there are a couple different interval programming options on the PM5.

Right now ConnectIQ doesn't let me select a specific HR sensor if I use the device but rather just ask for the HR from the system. On the Fenix I am able to choose a preferred HR source (outside of ConnectIQ before I load the application) but I don't see that option in the 235 manual. Without being able to choose from the application the best option I can recommend is to disable the wrist HR sensor or select the user application setting to use the Performance Monitor as the HR source. If you use only the PM5 as a source at this point you will get one chart but you won't get intensity minutes or other Connect calculations until a Connect integration that is more complete is provided.

I used variable intervals, 4* 1000m/15" (used for one leg session, and the time to change leg)

just the shut down like on Fenix3 if I don't turn off the PM5

I'm having a tough time re-creating this. So your comment earlier mentions the PM5 shutting off, is that happening between these intervals without exiting the application?

When I made the intervals, the app stuck on iq logo after one or two intervals.same problem if I re-row and I exit the workout without doing it(both on edge520 and Fenix)

The other problem is that if I have the same hrstrap connected on fenix when I finish the session, after saving, the Fenix crashes (sometimes I loose the activity, sometimes no. Yesterday It was truncated and it was impossible to sync with connect. Trainingpeaks was OK, but there were missing the last 35")
One time it happened to edge when I didn't turn off the pm5
    This problem occurred since 1.09
I alway deleted the app from the devices and installed again

First problem occurs also if you select a workout and then exit before you start it, the second when you have other sensors active.
This morning I started a workout and it crashed, I had powermeter, Tempe and straps active(not connected)

I am able to create a crash when I save a workout and then begin another without exiting the application. I'll need to dig further into why this is happening but in the meantime you should be able to exit the application and restart it and as long as you're not rowing yet it will connect and record normally unless I am mis-understanding what you are describing. So if the PM5 indicates it saved a workout try exiting and restarting the ErgIQ application till I can work out a fix, just make sure the rowing machine is not active and it should link right back up.
