Erg IQ

Installation & Configuration

ErgIQ can be installed from the Connect IQ store using the link below. Once installed, a limited set of application settings are available for the user to adjust. These settings as well as the pairing procedure are outlined in the user manual.

Requirements

ErgIQ will connect to a compatible fitness equipment system, the following is currently supported:

  • Concept2 Rower/SkiErg with PM5 (Firmware v22.015/156/722 or greater)

Known Issues

This is a BETA and therefore it has some items being worked through. For issues relating to FIT recording, pairing or Garmin Connect, even if they are listed here please report that you have the issue as well. This will help accurately determine the scale of the problem.

  • workout metrics are incorrect: distance, calories, stroke count (upgrade PM5 to BETA v22.014 or greater using C2 Utility if your comfortable doing this, otherwise it will be fixed in the next release)
  • Fenix3, FR920XT, and vivoactive HR have issues pairing (see post #4 for temporary workarounds until resolved)
  • vivoactive doesn't save last lap and session data correctly (issue being investigated)
  • Garmin Connect doesn't integrate developer FIT fields using native number mapping for summary, laps, or record fields

Non-Garmin FIT Analysis Sites

ErgIQ takes advantage of the newer defined developer FIT fields. These fields are a new standard that are not currently recognized at all non-Garmin sites. The following sites are known to work but others may work as well, this is not an exhaustive listing:

ErgIQ Reviews or Other Information

  • rowingmusings ErgIQ Review - Review
  • Sad that my watch can only show time and no distance and no heart rate. I hope this can be resolved sometime in the future.

This is an issue with Connect. When you look at your workout in Connect you'll see a Connect IQ chart for heart rate and at the bottom of the page under Connect IQ you should see the AVG and MAX HR with distance as well.

Also it seems that Recovery advisor does not recognize this activity. But this is not important.
I use Sportlyzer (https://beta.sportlyzer.com) app for my other activities, and it does not sync those rowing workouts. I was hoping that it gets heart rate and distance info. Need to check with them probably.

Recovery advisor is build into the watch and at this time doesn't recognize this activity. If you configure in user settings to use the Garmin Device for HR source it will store the HR in the Garmin data as well and give you time towards your intensity minutes though. If you do this, you will still need to pair the HR monitor with the PM5 in order for it to show HR while you row.

Sportlyzer is most likely not upgraded to handle the new FIT file format. You'll need to get in touch with them.

When I look at the workout on my watch, it has an option " Download Heart Rate". What does it do
If I have watch paired with HRM strap, could watch store heart rate as ordinary apps also?

I am not familiar with the "Download Heart Rate" option. See above about HR settings.

Also, I noticed you have some large spikes in stroke rate. Are you actually pulling at that rate or it is sporadically happening? If it is randomly happening review your batteries and if they are below 85-80% replace them, it should correct that anomaly.
  • Combining ErgIQ with apps like LiveRowing?

I love using LiveRowing to build a workout or apply an existing one and how it programs the PM5 with the workout. Unfortunately, I can't seem to find a way to use both LiveRowing and ErgIQ at the same time (ie I want ErgIQ to collect the data on the session but LiveRowing to program the PM5 and ideally serve as the 'heads up display' of sorts during the workout). I was hoping i could pair one via bluetooth and the other via ANT but that does not look to work.

Is there any work around here I'm missing?
  • I am not familiar with the "Download Heart Rate" option. See above about HR settings.

My bad - it is for HRM-SWIM belt. It can download heart rate data from belt after the workout is finished.

If I choose Garmin as a Heart rate source I can not connect to PM5 anymore.

If I enter Erg pairing ID (last 4 digits) I can not connect to PM5 anymore.
  • Great work!

Thanks for this solution. I had to update firmaware (to beta) on my PM5. Seems to work fine now.
Distance shown in connect is 0m, but on connectIQ it is right.
    My clock is fr 735.
    Great work!

The heart rate source might be causing the ANT pairing issue which is known with the Fenix 3. If the heart rate setting is on performance monitor does the pairing ID function work and you can pair again?

Glad to hear you're enjoying it!

The bluetooth and ANT should work at the same time. I sent you a note asking for some more information.

Only way I could pair is if the Heart Rate Source was PM and no Pairing ID in the settings.
If changed the pairing ID from 0 to my number I could not pair anymore. The number was correct I checked it multiple times.

    I use Fenix3 and ErgData
First I connect hr to pm5
Then I connect Fenix3 and after I Oper ErgData on my tablet and connect to pm5.
    Everything works good
