Now .. Your Heart and the Vivoactive HR device teams up to 'Measure your Sleep'

Get HR Sleep in the Garmin Connect IQ Store here ..

https://apps.garmin.com/en-US/apps/b...2-c9fe3f777fc0

Now measure your Sleep Performance with HR Sleep .. see how your sleep improves over time using your HR data.

Be sure that your battery is charged to at least 30% before running HR Sleep overnight. That green light .. is a little hungry.

Sleep Zones Example ..

Set Minimum Sleep HR - 40

Sleep Zone 0 .. less than 40 bpm
Sleep Zone 1 .. 40 - 43 bpm
Sleep Zone 2 .. 44 - 47 bpm
Sleep Zone 3 .. 48 - 51 bpm
Sleep Zone 4 .. 52 - 55 bpm
Sleep Zone 5 .. over 55 bpm

Thank you ..
VivoactiveHRGuy
  • If you want to be really sure you have the right file .. you can open the file in Notepad and search for "Minimum Sleep HR (30-80)" .. as below. If you find it .. you have the right file. Do not edit the file as you will need to install it again if you do.

An easier way seems to be to open GarminDevice.xml (root folder) and search for HR Sleep - or is this not always correct? (It is on my device).

The last thing that I want to see people doing is messing with an XML file. The format of an XML file is such that .. you just do not want to mess with them. My answer .. accomplishes the needed task and in such a way that most people have the technical capability to perform it without damaging anything.

Let me be the first to attest to *NOT* messing with the XML file!

I wanted to see if I could use USB host mode from an Android tablet to look at the file system of my Vivoactive HR. It worked. I tried to use Solid Explorer to look at the XML file. The SE Editor seemed to have touched the XML file and afterward, I was left with a bunch of 0 size .PRG files, along with some others I might not have noticed?

I had to re-download these basic Watch Faces that were pre-installed, at least on the Vivoactive HR:

    Modern Analog
    Traditional Analog
    Pendulum

After that, I had to re-download all the Watch Faces and Applications I had added before, including HR Sleep!

    -----

VivoactiveHRGuy, while I'm here, thank you for the app! I only got my Vivoactive HR two nights ago and this was the first app I grabbed!

You know .. I have been in IT for almost 20 years now and even I do not like to touch XML files, and I am a database guy.

But anyone reading this, be sure to download the latest version of HR Sleep as I made a change to the user interface recently to make it easier to use.

I use HR Sleep myself .. and well I find it better than deep and light sleep. To me .. light and deep tells me nothing, just like doing an average and not saying what you are averaging.

Glad HR Sleep is working for you.

Just an FYI ... I found a rather serious issue with HR Sleep due to a recent change.

It causes the 'Summary Screen' data to be incorrect if you swipe to a screen other than the timing screen.

I will be fixing it today and releasing a new version ASAP ..

    [Version 1.153] January 18 / 2017

    - Fixed serious issue (introduced in version 1.151) where summary screen data was not correct if you swipe to a screen other than the timing screen. I am deeply sorry .. as well, even the best of us mess up on occasion.

Those that have upgraded in the last 3 days or so .. please update to the latest version.

    New HR Sleep Version Today

    [Version 1.154] January 21 / 2017

    - Added pause timeout setting in Garmin Connect Mobile / Garmin Express. It will time out the pause if set and revert back to normal operation. Default is 0 and no timeout. If it is set .. from 60 to 900 seconds (15 minutes maximum) , then the pause will automatically turn off when the set number of seconds elapses.

For those wondering about this .. I did it cause I tend to remember to pause it, but sometimes forget to turn the pause off. This resolved that issue.

New Version of HR Sleep Now Available ..

A new version of HR Sleep now available on your Vivoactive HR.

    [Version 1.155] January 28 / 2017

    - Added a 4th screen to allow display of the average of your HR in each 2 hour period (from the time the application is started), up to 12 hours.

    So recording hours 0-2, 2-4, 4-6, 6-8, 8-10 and 10-12.

Due to the ability for a user to pause the application .. I did not do it by the actual time. That would get too messy.

It is effected by the pause .. and will only collect data when not in pause mode (same as all the other screens).

It is the average HR value for the 2 hour period indicated, and is colored according to your calculated Sleep Zones (as displayed on the Sleep Zone screen). This way you can see how that 2 hour period was ... green, orange or red. Remember .. green is good, red .. not so much as it indicates an elevated HR.

Also added more data to data logging on exit if you have data logging setup completed.

As of Version 1.155 (Jan 28 / 2017) you will see extra data (average HR data for every 2 hour period). If it says 0.00, then there was no data for that period.

It is as follows .. Date, Hour 0-2 Avg HR, Hour 2-4 Avg HR, Hour 4-6 Avg HR, Hour 6-8 Avg HR, Hour 8-10 Avg HR, Hour 10-12 Avg HR

    2017/01/28,54.34,52.34,47.45,49.87,51.56,49.76

A screen shot of the new screen.

    New HR Sleep Version Today

    [Version 1.156] January 31 / 2017

    - Added elapsed time to hour screen. I did remove the 10-12 hour segment however to allow it to fit on the screen. No other changes.
  • Thanks for the app, very interesting. Too bad it doesn't work with the FR235 (memory too limited) but I borrowed a VAHR to try it. Too much time in SZ0 with the 45 setting. Will lower it the next time.
