Now .. Your Heart and the Vivoactive HR device teams up to 'Measure your Sleep'

Get HR Sleep in the Garmin Connect IQ Store here ..

https://apps.garmin.com/en-US/apps/b...2-c9fe3f777fc0

Now measure your Sleep Performance with HR Sleep .. see how your sleep improves over time using your HR data.

Be sure that your battery is charged to at least 30% before running HR Sleep overnight. That green light .. is a little hungry.

Sleep Zones Example ..

Set Minimum Sleep HR - 40

Sleep Zone 0 .. less than 40 bpm
Sleep Zone 1 .. 40 - 43 bpm
Sleep Zone 2 .. 44 - 47 bpm
Sleep Zone 3 .. 48 - 51 bpm
Sleep Zone 4 .. 52 - 55 bpm
Sleep Zone 5 .. over 55 bpm

Thank you ..

Just a note ... unlike when some exercise and tighten their Vivoactive HR devices, during sleep .. this is NOT what you want to do. That will cause your heart rate to be artificially higher. The Vivoactive HR does a better job of HR during periods of rest.

To do data logging with HR Sleep you need to do the following ..

    - Connect your Vivoactive HR to your computer via your USB charging cable. Sorry, it must be a computer, smartphones will not work.
    - Navigate to the Garmin\Apps\Logs folder
    - Create a text file named the same as your HR Sleep program file. See details below.
    - Exit .. and enjoy.
    - Your pertinent HR Sleep data will now be logged upon exiting HR Sleep to that file.

Note .. the data is in the following format (CSV format):

The data is as follows if you use TIME on the SUMMARY screen .. (all times are hour:min:sec format)

Date, MinHRValue,Total Sleep time, Sleep Zone 0 Time, Sleep Zone 1 Time, Sleep Zone 2 Time, Sleep Zone 3 Time, Sleep Zone 4 Time, Sleep Zone 5 Time, Minimum HR value for the whole night, Average HR value for the whole night

    2016/12/7,45,5:45:34,5:34:45,0:11:11,0:00:00,0:00:00,0:00:00,0:00:00,45, 56

As of version 1.155 and updated in version 1.157 (Feb 20 / 2017) you will see extra data (average HR data for every 2 hour period). If it says 0, then there was no data for that period.

It is as follows .. Date, MinHRValue,Hour 0-2 Avg HR, Hour 2-4 Avg HR, Hour 4-6 Avg HR, Hour 6-8 Avg HR, Hour 8-10 Avg HR, Hour 10-12 Avg HR

    2017/01/28,45,54.34,52.34,47.45,49.87,51.56,49.76

If you do percentage on the SUMMARY screen it is as follows ..

Date, MinHRValue,Total Sleep time, Percent in Sleep Zone 0, Percent in Sleep Zone 1, Percent in Sleep Zone 2, Percent in Sleep Zone 3, Percent in Sleep Zone 4, Percent in Sleep Zone 5, Minimum HR value for the whole night, Average HR value for the whole night

    2016/12/7,5:45:34,8,72,20,0,0,0,45, 56

You can use a program like Excel (or any of your choosing) to analyze or manipulate your data should you desire.

Note .. DO NOT delete that file, as the Vivoactive will not recreate it, but will skip the data logging if it is not there.

Re the HR Sleep file .. when you connect to your Vivoactive HR, it may look like this. The photo below is the Garmin\Apps folder. Note the NAME of the HR Sleep prg file as you will need this for your data logging.

You need to name the text file the same as the PRG file for HR Sleep. The best way to tell which one it is, probably by the date / time of your HR Sleep install.

So for the above .. you would need to name your data logging text file as 6C5G5419.txt
This text file goes into the GARMIN\APPS\LOGS folder

If you want to be really sure you have the right file .. you can open the file in Notepad and search for "Minimum Sleep HR (30-80)" .. as below. If you find it .. you have the right file. Do not edit the file as you will need to install it again if you do.

Sorry .. there is no way around this. The steps we need to go through for our data. :)
    Enjoy

Today .. added an Average HR value for seeing how your HR is overnight.

If your values are in Sleep Zones 0-2 then they will be green.
If your values are in Sleep Zone 3 they will be orange.
If your values are in Sleep Zones 4-5 or above they will be red.

You can see the screen below ..

I tried using the app for the last two nights. I created the log file and the app is adding data, but the data is all zeros:
    2016/12/09,0:00:00,0:00:00,0:00:00,0:00:00,0:00:00,0:00:00,0:00:00,0
    2016/12/10,0:00:00,0:00:00,0:00:00,0:00:00,0:00:00,0:00:00,0:00:00,0

    Any ideas?

Would you consider adding the current time to the app?

Thanks, I'm really interested in getting this working so I can see my data. :D

You are in luck .. it will be fixed in about 10 minutes in Version 1.138. But I cannot add the time as there is just no room on the screen.
Besides .. we are supposed to be sleeping. Smiles.

Edit .. I just added the Average HR value as well as a bonus. I know that I want to see that in the long term.

:) I no longer have a clock in my bedroom, I'm dependent on my watch. I could look at my phone, but that's a lot brighter.

Maybe on one of the secondary data screens?

I got data in the log from last night, thanks!

Ok .. I looked at the screens and a compromise to hopefully make it work for you, I am going to add the time in there instead of the current HR value on that screen.
It will be exactly like HR Always. Almost copy and paste. :p

I find that I like that screen myself .. as I can see my minimum and average when I am not sleeping.
My current HR .. as long as I am in a semi sleep mode is usually pretty constant.

It will be a setting in Garmin Connect Mobile / Garmin Express that you will have to select to see the time. It is not going to be the default.

Edit ... the latest version has this change for those that need to see the time.

    Take care ..

Did some minor changes today .. update to the latest version (1.144) to ensure that HR Sleep works correctly for you.

    Thanks

  • I sometimes have to get up for the little one etc..... would this app still work for me? I assume this would increase the average values etc?

You can pause this app (right button press) .. as well as HR Sleep Lite for just those times. Hint .. I use HR Sleep Lite :)
Edit ... I lied. I use HR Sleep now.
