App: Hike2

The next generation of the Hike app. With additional memory and sensors on the vivoactive HR, all be looking at adding new stuff. Right now, it makes use of the hardware compass and barometric Altimeter!

Like Hike, it's stats up and once it gets GPS, press start to begin the recording. There are then a number of screens you can swipe through to see data, like time-distance, pace-speed, altitude data, lat/lon data, and a chart that shows your hike so far. Pressing the back button while recording marks a waypoint, and pressing start pauses the recording, and gives you the option to resume, save, or discard the recording.

  • thetechnobear. Are you running version 2.52? There, if the dots for floors are turned off, there shouldn't be a floor alert. It could be a bug in 2.51 though.

thanks that's fixed it... I had turned dots off, but i perhaps had not tested it since changing the setting.

    q. the elevation graph is this showing a 4 hour time window or something?
when i tried this morning on a quick hour long walk, it showed flat for 3/4 of graph (from prior to walk), and then only showed the change of elevation in the last 1/4 or so of the graph. (my walks starts with an immediate drop of 200m, followed by a 200m climb, so pretty obvious what the profile looks like)

would it be possible to enhance, and make the graphs scale to length of the hike so far. ( think this is what the garmin walk does)

also a +1 on simple navigation, perhaps just having the compass able to show distance/bearing to start or another WP?

thanks again for a great app.

    .

Yes, it's "about" 4 hours, and I scale it from lowest to highest. So the first part will be flat, until you change elevation.

I'll put it on my list of things to consider.

between the waypoint page and the compass, the info is kind of there (distance and direction), but I'll think about enhancing it.

  • Hi,

I have been trying and failing to get my HRM strap to work with the app. I’m using an Edge 520, the HRM is being detected by the 520 as usual but no heart rate is shown when I’m in the Hike2 app even with the correct boxes/options selected.

Does Hike2 have full functioning on an Edge 520?

    Thanks.
  • Are you not seeing the HR at the bottom of the screens, not on the HR page, or both? The HR screen can't work on Edge devices (the history isn't available) and I should force that screen disabled on edge devices. But you should see HR at the bottom of the screens on your device.
  • I’m am seeing the HR at the bottom of the screen but now I understand that I won’t see the HR screen on an Edge. Thanks for the app!
  • Hi, is it compatible with FR920XT?
    Best

  • Hike2+ is only for devices with Connect IQ2 or greater. The original Hike is for CIQ 1 devices (like the 920), but I didn't add 920 support to that, and likely won't, as the app is tight on memory.
  • is there a chance, you will do mod "resume later" which will temporarily shoot off all power compsumting devices like is GPS etc, - same principle as garmin hiking app ? becoase when you pause your application now, it still takes tons of energy.
  • CIQ device-apps don't have the ability to do a "resume later" function like native apps do. What you may consider is that when you pause, you can hook up something like a battery based charger to the watch. Hike2 contimes to run, but you can top off the battery when stopping for a break.
  • New today! Version 2.65

This one has the beta of a kind of large feature - the use of on-board maps!

Maps are only available with the fenix5x right now. It replaces what used to be the chart screen. When on the map screen, "start" and "back" act as they do on other screens, my "menu" (long press up) take you into pan/zoom mode.

In settings, there is a "map size" setting. You can set the initial size of the map from a scale of about 250 feet to about 1/3 of a mile.

The watch settings for maps also come into play. Make sure you have "track log=show" to see your path, and other settings like map orientation, and show user locations will also be used on this map. If you don't have a fenix5x, you'll see the chart screen.

A second feature (off by default) is a new "User Screen", where a use can see 4 things to see on a single screen. Right now the options are elapsed time, distance, elevation, change in elevation, distance/direction to start. I'm open to suggestions on what other things you'd like!
