App: Hike2

The next generation of the Hike app. With additional memory and sensors on the vivoactive HR, all be looking at adding new stuff. Right now, it makes use of the hardware compass and barometric Altimeter!

Like Hike, it's stats up and once it gets GPS, press start to begin the recording. There are then a number of screens you can swipe through to see data, like time-distance, pace-speed, altitude data, lat/lon data, and a chart that shows your hike so far. Pressing the back button while recording marks a waypoint, and pressing start pauses the recording, and gives you the option to resume, save, or discard the recording.

Please post questions and problems here.
  • I still don’t get it. My average HR was 103 and my max HR was 140 while the recorded hike time was 1hr 9mins with 278 calories. With such reading, I would have earned intensity minutes while running outdoor or on the treadmill or cardio strength training in the gym. What else should I set or where else should I be checking. My activity class is set at 5. I think it was auto set for me as I don’t remember changing it
  • Check you profile in Garmin Connect - your activity class and HR zones. As I said, calculating the intense minutes is done by the firmware, and I believe it uses firstbeat to do that You may want to contact Garmin support if the firmware isn't doin what you expect, but I know for me, I get intensity minutes. They only connection to activity/intensense minutes in hike2 itself, is I display what the firmware is reporting.

What device are you using and what FW is it running? There might be a connection to the other user. But I know I get them on the va3 with the 3.40FW, for example, with my activity class and HR zones set in Garmin Connect.
  • great app, thanks for developing it.

version 2.51 adds the option (default is on) to get an alert on floors up/down, as well as showing their location on the chart page (solid dot=up, hollow dot=down). Also, there's a new screen for floors(up, down, during the activity and for the day), and active minutes (moderate and vigorous, for the day and the week)

how can i disable the floor up/down notification?
I can see how to disable the floor screen, and dot on chart, but not something for floor alert/notification.

(I'm looking at settings in GC app on iPhone)
    hardware: 645M/OS 2.5
  • Let me check the code. If you disable the dots, I thought I disabled the floors alert. If not, look for an update in the next day or two.
  • thetechnobear. Are you running version 2.52? There, if the dots for floors are turned off, there shouldn't be a floor alert. It could be a bug in 2.51 though.
  • is it just my impression or the latest version consumes more battery? Enable or disable some screens can save battery?
  • What device are you using? Was new FW installed about the same time?

Code wise, if anything, starting with the 2.50 version it's more efficient.
  • Fenix 5s Sapphire edition (WiFi): 8.0.0 firmware installed still two months ago.

    Hike2: 2.52 version

Today I've done a simple walk of 50 minutes hour staying on main (first) screen of your app (no graph pages), and battery went from 96% to 82%...

Prior, with 2.50 version I consumed about 10% per hour...
  • So about 12% instead of 10%? I've also heard there are some people having battery issues on the 5x. Have you tried the new beta FW? Also, sometimes rebooting the device clears up stuff. Press and hold the light button until the watch turns itself off, and then back on.

The code differences between 2.50 and 2.52 are actually very minor, but I'll check them out.
  • So about 12% instead of 10%?

96-82 = 14% (not 12%) and in 50 minutes (not 1 hour): I can assume that in 1 hour I would have consumed 16.8% of the battery (almost 170% !). And - I add - with 2.50 I consumed 10% per hour even keeping the screen fixed on the elevarion graph

Have you tried the new beta FW?

I have no idea how I could install a beta firmware, and I'm not going to experiment, since my Fenix 5s is my only watch, always on my wrist.

Also, sometimes rebooting the device clears up stuff. Press and hold the light button until the watch turns itself off, and then back on.

Ok, I will also try this suggestion, but - as I said before - the firmware 8.0.0 has been installed on my watch for more than two months, and I have already restarted other times. In addition, native Garmin applications consume battery in a normal way.

The code differences between 2.50 and 2.52 are actually very minor, but I'll check them out.

    Thanks for your assistance.
