The next generation of the Hike app. With additional memory and sensors on the vivoactive HR, all be looking at adding new stuff. Right now, it makes use of the hardware compass and barometric Altimeter!

Like Hike, it's stats up and once it gets GPS, press start to begin the recording. There are then a number of screens you can swipe through to see data, like time-distance, pace-speed, altitude data, lat/lon data, and a chart that shows your hike so far. Pressing the back button while recording marks a waypoint, and pressing start pauses the recording, and gives you the option to resume, save, or discard the recording.

Please post questions and problems here.
  • Uploaded Hike 2+ to the store today. Mainly, it's a clean up of the code. I removed a few things that are no longer needed, tightened the code, but did add a few things in the process.

    - new alerts for low battery and high speed. You can set the battery level where you want an alert, or a speed where you want to be alerted. So if, for example, you forget to stop/save the activity and get in your car and start driving, you'll know!

    - for alerts, there's now an option for vibrations, tones, both, or neither (tones and vibrations aren't available on all devices, as some only have tones, and some, only vibrations

    - reworked the menus in the app, to show the state you'll be changing an option to (ie: "make background white")

    - added better titles to some screens, and simplified a few things to make the screens cleaner. One example is on the main screen, following the version number, there will be a H or W, to instate you are recording a Hike or a Walk. Another is I removed the decimal part of the Tempe Temperature on the bottom lines, as that line was getting too wide on some devices for temperature and heart rates over 100.

    Any questions, please ask!
  • Oh, one change I forgot to mention. When you first start the app and when it's waiting for GPS, "Fix: xxx" is displayed to show the current quality of GPS, You might see "None", "Last", and "Poor" as GPS is starting up.
  • version 2.51 adds the option (default is on) to get an alert on floors up/down, as well as showing their location on the chart page (solid dot=up, hollow dot=down). Also, there's a new screen for floors(up, down, during the activity and for the day), and active minutes (moderate and vigorous, for the day and the week)
  • I just did a hike just now and I realized it doesn’t record intensity minutes. Is there a bug or it wasn’t supposed to record?
  • Intense/active minutes is done by the firmware, and actually isn't in the .fit recording itself.(for any activity I've seen) You can earn them on a hike, and in version 2.51, there's a new screen that shows the day and week value for both moderate and vigorous minutes, but even versions before that they would be earned. I simply just display what the firmware thinks you earned.

What watch are you using? Are your settings such that it's hard to get them in general?
  • I’m using VA3. I have been getting intensity minutes for other activities with no issues. It’s my first time using this hike app. Do I have to adjust any settings?
  • You shouldn't need to change anything, and the va3 should works like other watches and other apps on that watch. In hike2 on a va3, before you start recording, a long press of the screen gives you a menu, with an option for switching between recording this as a hike or a walk. Try it recording a walk, and see if you get them. The FW shouldn't differentiate between walking and hiking for this, but it just might, and if so, I'd consider that a firmware bug, and I'll submit a bug report.
  • Ok, I went out for about an hour with a va3 running the 3.40 FW, and recorded it with Hike2, and it counted active minutes just fine. (I was watching the screen that displays those during the activity.

Could it be something with your heart rate zones or activity class used on the device?
  • I just finished a hike. Same problem. Intensity minutes not counted at all.
  • Intensity minutes is a function of the firmware, and is based on things like your HR zones and activity class. For me, activity class is 3, with a range is 0 to 10. I'd check those types of things in your profile. It could also be that you didn't do anything where the firmware thought you should get any.
