App: Hike2

The next generation of the Hike app. With additional memory and sensors on the vivoactive HR, all be looking at adding new stuff. Right now, it makes use of the hardware compass and barometric Altimeter!

Like Hike, it's stats up and once it gets GPS, press start to begin the recording. There are then a number of screens you can swipe through to see data, like time-distance, pace-speed, altitude data, lat/lon data, and a chart that shows your hike so far. Pressing the back button while recording marks a waypoint, and pressing start pauses the recording, and gives you the option to resume, save, or discard the recording.

  • Good Afternoon, I just purchased a 735xt, and was considering upgrading it to a 935 ( or if my wallet says it is okay, Fenix 5x ) , but I mostly use it to hike, the 73
5xt didn't have a native app so I was looking to download this one. I updated to version 8.20 in garmin express but when I try and download your app it says I still need to update. Is there a workaround / something else I need to do to try your app?
  • What's happening is the app store doesn't know you undated your FW. First thing to do is make sure 8.20 is actually installed on your watch. To do that, under "settings>system" look at "about" and make sure it's saying 8.20. Power off the watch and turn it back on. Then, try syncing with Garmin express. And if that doesn't work, Try re-pairing with your phone.
  • Ah, Thank you. Turned it off and back on and it downloaded.
  • Hello.

Really love this app! Already used it a couple of times.

    1. Do you plan to localize it to various languages? Since I am German, I could simply translate needed strings for you. :)

    2. On one hike when I reached mountain top, I noticed that hight was nearly 100 meters off (too low).
So I tried to get into settings while Hike 2 was running to calibrate barometric altimeter, but I could not find out how. Is it possible to enter common settings while Hike 2 is running?

    Many thanks.
  • As far as translations, I'm really not set up for that, but thanks for the offer.

What watch and Firmware are you using? With newer FW on the f5/935 like devices, pressing menu will running the app, will give you a meny (hike2's menu is the first item), and you'll also see settings. (this is done by the firmware and not by the app itself)
  • Hello.
    Yesterday Hike2 crashed:
    I've been wearing chest strap.
When I took it off while Hike2 was still running, Hike2 immediately crashed.

    vaHR, latest firmware.

  • I'll take a look! Thanks!

Oh, what watch are you using and FW version?
  • I have a Vivoactive 3 with the 2.5 firmware. It seems like Hike2 uses the optical HR even if I'm wearing a chest strap that has been synced with the watch. I know the chest strap works since the built in apps display a message that the chest strap is being used.

    Is this expected behavior?
  • It should use the HRM band if it's available. In CIQ apps, you not may see a message like you do in a native app for the band. A CIQ app itself doesn't have access to the info.

But I'll look into it, as the va3 also doesn't connected to the Tempe which is the external Temperature sensor.
  • Here's a little bit more information. The other day, I was using Hike2 on the Vivoactive 3 while also capturing the hike on a 910XT. The heart rate recorded on the Vivoactive 3 was wildly different from that recorded on the 910XT. On the previous day, I used a built-in app (SUP) and the recorded heart rate tracked very closely between the two devices.
