App: Hike2

https://apps.garmin.com/en-US/apps/116a5b59-29ae-4397-a70e-907d7e5f8e44

The next generation of the Hike app. With additional memory and sensors on the vivoactive HR, all be looking at adding new stuff. Right now, it makes use of the hardware compass and barometric Altimeter!

Like Hike, it's stats up and once it gets GPS, press start to begin the recording. There are then a number of screens you can swipe through to see data, like time-distance, pace-speed, altitude data, lat/lon data, and a chart that shows your hike so far. Pressing the back button while recording marks a waypoint, and pressing start pauses the recording, and gives you the option to resume, save, or discard the recording.

  • I'm a new Fenix 3HR user - can this app be used with it?

I get a "sorry this app wasn't sent to your device because we're having trouble communication with our servers..." Haven't been seeing that when download other apps, so thought maybe it wasn't designed for the fenix3 HR. The app looks exactly like what I'm looking for

Sorry if this is a stupid question. Still learning the ins and outs of this platform.

    Thanks in advance.
  • Sorry, but Hike2 isn't available for the Fenix 3HR. Not sure why you're seeing the error you do from the App store, as I would have expected something like "you have no compatible devices" If you wan't to record walking on the Fenix 3hr, you could try Simple Walk.

It's a scaled down version of Hike/Hike2, but has many of the same features.
  • Hi
I have try simple walk and this one, wondering if there are
any chance you will put Nordic Walking/Fitness Walking in to Hike2 or maybe a new app?

    /Thomas
  • Hike2 does handle both Hiking and Walking (if that's what you mean by "fitness walking"). You can select walking or hiking before you start recording.

As far as "nordic walking", I'm not even sure what that is (I live in a desert where we might get a dusting of snow every 5 years).

What would be needed for it?
  • Hi
    Thanks for response
Nordic Walking also calls Fitness Walking in some country.I prefer Nordic Walking (because it increases energy - and provides up to 77 percent increased combustion compared with normal walking.)

Please have a look this link and some youtube clip
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nordic_walking

I'm sure You can do Nordic Walking in the desert to :-)

  • I'm still watching this thread, but expanding a bit and have a facebook page for all my apps. One of my first posts is a bit of history on why there is a Hike and Hike2!

Please share your experience there if you like my apps!
    https://www.facebook.com/connectiqaz

Maybe, the next time you're out for a hike, take a scenic picture with the chart screen of Hike/Hike2 in the foreground and post it there? :)
  • AutoPause?

Any chance for an auto pause option like in the Fenix 5 builtin Hike app?

Also, the Fenix 5 Hike app has choices for GPS of GPS off, GPS on, and GPS+GLonass. What mode does Hike2 set the GPS too? I'm assuming that GPS+Glonass gives increased accuracy at the cost of addition power usage. That that mode tracks more satellites and gets additional accuracy by tracking both systems.
  • Auto Pause has been requested a few times, and I've been thinking about the best way to handle it. Unlike running, there are times you might not be moving that fast, but still moving (and GPS drift can make it look like you move a bit when your sitting in a single spot)

Hike always uses GPS as it's fundamental for many things (in fact you can't start recording until there is a GPS fix), and for GPS only or GPS+GLONASS, that's actually determined by the setting for that in the last native activity you used that used GPS. There's no way to specify that in Connect IQ itself - just "Turn on GPS usings the last known settings".
  • Questions on Data Reported by VA-HR

Recently purchased the VA-HR and used the Hike2 app this weekend in the North Carolina mountains. Experienced some behavior I don't quite understand and would appreciate any comments.

    1. On a hike this weekend I had an elevation gain of 1,200 feet but my days activities only showed 4 floors gained. Does the elevation gained, as correctly reflected in Hike2 not translate to equivalent floors walked by Garmin?

    2. I think I've read that when using hiking poles you may get erroneous step counts. Again, Hike2 showed distance traveled based upon the GPS but the number of reported steps was way low.. compared to what I would expect and what my wife had with her fitbit and Apple watch.

    Thanks for the comments.
  • Hike2 version 2.09 is in the app store! There's a new optional screen for internet weather info! Just use app settings to set your 32 character darksky api key.
