Watchface: M2

This is the support thread for the M2 watchface:

has created a Facebook group for designs here: https://www.facebook.com/groups/423319952037948

And this PDF files contains a quick visual index to the designs posted in this thread: >>>    ForumProfiles1.pdf    <<<

To create your own design or modify one, install & use the M2 Designer app on your watch. These are the steps you would go through:

  • Optionally paste a text code into the "Profile Text" setting of M2 Designer & save the settings, or load one of your previously saved designs (either via the settings or the in-app menu).
  • Run the M2 Designer app (found underneath your activities list) and create your design.
  • Once you've finished, open the Garmin settings for M2 Designer.
  • The text code in "Profile Text" will now represent whatever your design looks like, so copy the text code from "Profile Text" - and be careful to select the whole text.
  • Close the settings for M2 Designer.
  • Open the Garmin settings for M2 (watchface) instead.
  • Delete any text that was already in "Profile Text" - this step helps to avoid potential problems
  • Paste the text code into "Profile Text".
  • Save the settings.
  • Now when you view the M2 watchface it will show your changes.

A guide for accessing the Garmin settings is here: https://forums.garmin.com/developer/connect-iq/w/wiki/14/changing-your-app-settings-in-garmin-express-gcm-ciq-mobile-store.

  • it would be nice to include an analog clock...

  • - there is one option for an "analog" clock - which is using the rings to display hours & minutes (but it may not look quite how you want Slight smile)

If I can get the circles working as an option for the rectangles, then they will also be able to display a small analog clock. (As the Rects can already display hours & minutes.) Could even have one for the current time and one for the 2nd time zone. But again the graphics will be very simple, so may not look how you imagine or want!

Maybe an alternative display option for the Rects as well as "circle" could be to display as a "hand" - just a simple line indicating the current value rotating around the centre ...

  • Here's my latest effort: 01Ys25W251W21WDPK1011X6X2223VdVd1X6Vk221Vd11X3YH23X7413N213641HXUVq14N013VX61NX710XbXV6BHXVXO14H013N413Va613U61HXUWE14L013Wp61HXUX01bGT01b0S013WM613Q613Vk61HXUWc14R013Ve617XRVcVdXHWwBYoZV0Vu0XHWwBYsHWqM0WcC13WMC11HWVM0XeE13XOE11PZC3VdVdVd0

Most of the time, you'll actually see the second image, with just hour, minutes, day of the week, month of the day, and the coloured line.

However, the glance gesture shows the additional details (as shown in the first image): seconds indicator around the edge, current battery level (the battery icon fill changes depending on level), next sun event (sun rise/sun set, in 12h hour format, to preserve space), current heart rate, completed steps and completed floors, as well as whether or not alarm is set and phone connected (the icons below the minute will turn dark grey if no phone is connected or no alarm is set, respectively)

The third image shows that the red line turns purple if the move alarm is activated, i.e. you have to move to turn it back to the more pleasing red. This colour changes is also present in the minimalist, non-glance version of the watch face.

  • @markdotai you know what would be insanely awesome? An activity data screen / data field that's a freely configurable as your watch face, especially for bike computers. I imagine you could reuse a lot of your code... There are some good data fields out there (ie. "All In One" by Peter De Decker), but nothing as configurable as your watch face. I for one would totally, easily pay $10-15 for this.

  • - have you tried HMs DIY datafields? I haven't used it myself but it looks really cool from the showcase thread:

It seems to have a ton of configuration options (more than M2) and a nice design tool on PC Slight smile

  • Amazing. Thanks! This looks pretty promising. I swear, I thoroughly searched the Garmin IQ store before asking here, but it's really difficult to find things in there. Now I just need to find a PC somewhere Slight smile

  • Yep it seems hard to find things on the Store - things seem to be in random categories almost! I went looking for HMs DIY (knowing it was there somewhere) and it still took me a while to find it ...

It's also difficult that all you see is an image and the name - you can only find out more by diving deeper to every app page.
