This will provide access to data from thousands of weather stations in the "Weather Underground". Only tested in the US, but I understand it's available in many other locations.

Not just the weather in your town, but it could be your own back yard, if you have a weather station connected to WU!

To use this widget, you WILL NEED an "APIKEY" from WU. You can get one for no cost but only if if have a weather station that sends data to WU,

.
Many of the following posts are for the old version of this widget which is no longer available, so check at the end for info on the new version.

  • Yes, they stopped issuing them in May. In the app description I mention that if you don't already have a key, don't bother downloading the widget. At some point they may even disable existing API Keys.

Any chance of reworking this app for a different, possibly government weather source?

    Thank you
  • I've been looking at a couple other weather sources, but the thing about WU is that it does support personal weather stations. When I first wrote it, it was so I could see the weather in my own backyard. The weather at the airport can be quite different than where I am.
  • Hi Jim,

Something went wrong with the widgwet. Having updated to version 2.07 stamped as of 5th December the widget always looks for GPS and not just during it first run. Even if both GC settings and those available on the watch via long push menu confirn that there are station set, in case of each run the widget is struggling for get a GPS fix. If I hide my watch together with my phone and they stay stashed, no data are downloaded.
To be fair I change my home station too just after downloading the version of 5th, maybe there is nothing to do with the version itself, but in this case changing station is buggy.
I even tried to uninstall and reinstall the widget, but no improvement.
I would appreciate if you can test it, too.

    btw I have a Fenix3 HR.
  • Try uninstalling and then reinstalling.
  • Jim, as I wrote it I had uninstalled and reinstalled before posting the problem.

see the last part of my previous post
  • I'll take a look, but to be honest very little has changed in this app in a long time.

update: What are the weather stations you use/see in settings?
  • Fyki I even tried a power cycle. Not the normal one, but the enforced one pushing the “light” button for appr. 15-20 seconds
  • IPOMZ4

It is a brand new one operating for few days and closer to my home than the previous one I had used.

    EDIT

It is mysterious. I reverted to the previous one, ISOLYMR5, and it works without the search for GPS fix.

would you test these two stations on your watch?

    EDIT 2

I guess it would be enough to test only IPOMZ4, since I tried my other previous favorite, IBUDAPES584, and it worked, too.
  • There seems to be something with the first one not saving, I'm thinking it's the length of the name as it's only 6 where they are usually longer than that. (like the 2nd one)
  • Do you mean you restricted the minimum length of the station name in your widget or is it more complicated like that?
