Available in the app store! For the vivoactive and new forerunners!

This will provide access to data from thousands of weather stations in the "Weather Underground". Only tested in the US, but I understand it's available in many other locations.

Not just the weather in your town, but it could be your own back yard, if you have a weather station connected to WU!

To use this widget, you WILL NEED an "APIKEY" from WU. You can get one for no cost but only if if have a weather station that sends data to WU,

.
Many of the following posts are for the old version of this widget which is no longer available, so check at the end for info on the new version.

  • Glad you liked it!

  • One thing that might not be obvious (I was reminded of this in a review today), that in the widget "menu" can be really useful! On some devices, it's a long press of up, other's there is a menu key, and on others, a long press of the screen.

You'll get a menu, where you can get the weather for you current location, switch back to the weather for your "home" location, or set the current location as your "home"!
  • Hi Jim,

Does https://apicommunity.wunderground.co...nd-api-changes have an impact on your widget?

I mean it has been already impacted indirectly because just even here in Hungary dozens of private weather stations have disappeared from the 'WU map'. In a circle of 7 km radius there were at least 15 stations in the beginning of the year, and today the last one has been switched off.

But I dont know whether you got a formal hint or not about the continuity of the free API. It awas said 3 weeks ago that there would be still free for those who had already created them earlier
  • Yes.. If you read the description in the store for the widget, WU is no longer making APIKEYS available as of May 15, so unless you have a key already, the widget can't be used. I've been following the forums at WU, and at some point current keys may also stop working.

A number of people with Personal Weather Stations have stopped sending their data to WU. WU depends on data from PWSs, but this means that soon those "data providers" may no longer be able to even get their own data, except as a CVS file. I'm still sending data from my PWS to WU, but may not in the future. I "think" this change may be related to GDPR.
  • I swear that I got an API key for a watch face on my VAHR from WU maybe a year or 2 ago, but that one is 32 digits long? Is the API that I need for your widget part of the 32 digit API that I already have? Neither the first 16 nor the last 16 digits of my key seem to work.
  • It's 16 characters. Are you sure that's not a key from something else,? I think Darksky is 32 characters.

Yes, of course. That was it. Well, I have an API I guess, but not the correct one. Thanks!
  • Unfortunately WU is no longer providing the free API Keyscommunity.garmin.com/.../1395765.jpg
  • Yes, they stopped issuing them in May. In the app description I mention that if you don't already have a key, don't bother downloading the widget. At some point they may even disable existing API Keys.
