Weather Underground widget

Available in the app store! For the vivoactive and new forerunners!

https://apps.garmin.com/en-US/apps/f509fc4e-7f1f-48a5-b337-ed86668c5f6c

This will provide access to data from thousands of weather stations in the "Weather Underground". Only tested in the US, but I understand it's available in many other locations.

Not just the weather in your town, but it could be your own back yard, if you have a weather station connected to WU!

To use this widget, you WILL NEED an "APIKEY" from WU. You can get one for no cost but only if if have a weather station that sends data to WU,

.
Many of the following posts are for the old version of this widget which is no longer available, so check at the end for info on the new version.

  • -300 is "NETWORK_REQUEST_TIMED_OUT"

What phone are you using? Last I checked, Garmin Connect Mobile for Windows Phone didn't work with Communications Requests from Connect IQ. Also, how are you paired to your phone? With GCM/Android and GCM/iOS, you can now pair in Phone Settings or in the GCM app itself.

Hi, i had to reset mobile and f3 several times but then it worked.

I am missing any forecast. I know what the weather is like at the moment. I am into outdoors for professional reasons.
Is there any chance to include a forecast (24 hours would be sufficient for me)???
    Thaks in advance
  • Thanks again for that neat widget !
I noticed that on the VAHR you can tap to toggle the weather/sunrise pages, could the start/stop button be used for that on the FR235 by any chance ?
  • The widget started as only being for the original vivoactive, and that's where the "tap" thing came about, and is there for other touch devices today. Also back in the "early" days, I was using both the menu and start buttons for other things, so I added the "switch" timeout to just switch back and forth for the non-touch devices.

Today however, I'm just using the menu (to deal with a new location/switching the weather station) on watches (but still using the "start" button on Edge devices), so I can look at using "start" to toggle screens on watches.
  • Oh right the "menu" forces a GPS update, Start/Stop would be great, thanks!

Oh, would there be a way to add a decimal for the baro info ? Would be useful to use for precise altimeter calibration as 1mb is about 10 meters ;-)
  • For things like the baro, I'm displaying exactly I get back from WU - It even provides a value in that in both metric and non metric, so the widget itself doesn't do the conversion.
  • Ah that takes care of it then ;-)
  • How about some good and clear instructions on how to get the APIKEY from WU, what to enter on their page to get the key, etc? I just downloaded the app, signed up at WU, and cannot figure out how to get an apikey,
  • The instructions have been posted a number of times, but this is basically it :)

Once you have an account at WU, click on "More" and then "Weather API for developers", and a free developer key is all you need. Sign up for one, and use whatever you want for project name an website.

I'll do some screen shots - I'm starting a facebook page and and I'll post them there later today:

    Here's the basic flow:

It seems the latest update just does that on my FR235, thanks !
