This will provide access to data from thousands of weather stations in the "Weather Underground". Only tested in the US, but I understand it's available in many other locations.

Not just the weather in your town, but it could be your own back yard, if you have a weather station connected to WU!

To use this widget, you WILL NEED an "APIKEY" from WU. You can get one for no cost but only if if have a weather station that sends data to WU,

.
Many of the following posts are for the old version of this widget which is no longer available, so check at the end for info on the new version.

  • Any plans to add epix compatibility in the future? My wife and son both have it on their vivoactive and vivoactive hr and love it!. I feel left out...
  • Great widget, only gps station search doesn't seem to work on FR235.

Have just installed the widget and only managed to get it working by manually entering a WU station. It works great. Would be nice if it could remember last report to ease the wait and give indication on the change in wind.

Re GPS search. Upon initial install the widget just hung in a ''searching for GPS!' screen. Toggling the 'always use GPS' option also didn't give result. I then tried the optional weather station which made the widget work.

[corrected] Have figured out the 'menu button' on the FR235 is keeping the up arrow pressed 2-3sec on the bottom left of the watch. It does indicate it looks for a GPS station, but without result. Appreciate if that's something anyone has got working on their FR235.

In any case the widget works like a charm and will definitely help with kiting/surfing and allow for fresh wind reports whenever passing by in the vincinity of my bag and phone.

    Thanks!
  • To get a new GPS location, it's the "menu" button. On the 23x, that's a long hold of the "up" button.

If you are having trouble getting GPS, make sure that the watch can get GPS for something like the native running app (you can exit "run" right after getting a GPS lock).

    What FW are you running?

I get the GPS lock, but then the widget times out / the watch returns to the watch face screen.

    FR235 is on FW 4.70
    Widget is on FW 0.54
  • There will be a "D" in the lower right corner after it sent the data request and until it got data back. If it's timing out, I suspect there was a problem in getting the data from the server.

About all you can do it just try again a bit later.

Ok I will thanks for that!

As another addition to the widget it would be really helpful is the Km h(kilometers an hour) wind parameter can get converted to Kts.
  • Location Issue

Just downloaded this widget on my VivoActive HR. Looks great. But I'm in NYC now and my hometown is Orlando. The Weather Station it is reporting is back home in Orlando. My Galaxy 7 has the GPS on an Google Maps knows where I am. I flip screens to the widget and it says: "waiting for GPS" for about 1-2 seconds then "requesting data from WU". Still showing Orlando. I hold the right button down on my watch, and I get a small "G" in the lower right, then a "D". Still showing a weather station over 1000 miles away. What can I do to get my local weather? Thanks!
  • A long press of the right button (the "menu" key) will fire up GPS and get your current location. There might be a timing thing. Wait until you don't see the "D" before pressing the right button.

In app settings, you can also turn on "always get GPS" so it will always get your current location.
  • Location Issue - Resolved

Ok, I'm in a building here in NYC, near a window. I went to RUN mode and the GPS indicator is red. I assume that means my watch (VivoActive HR) isn't getting a GPS signal (even through my phone is). So the widget is defaulting to my home location. It might be helpful to flash a quick note when you press MENU to grab GPS, that it was not able to get a GPS fix? I imagine when I go out for lunch, with a clear view of the sky, it'll work for me. Wonder if the watch can grab the GPS coordinates from the GC connected phone as a backup? hanks again!
