Weather Underground widget

Available in the app store! For the vivoactive and new forerunners!

This will provide access to data from thousands of weather stations in the "Weather Underground". Only tested in the US, but I understand it's available in many other locations.

Not just the weather in your town, but it could be your own back yard, if you have a weather station connected to WU!

To use this widget, you WILL NEED an "APIKEY" from WU. You can get one for no cost but only if if have a weather station that sends data to WU,

.
Many of the following posts are for the old version of this widget which is no longer available, so check at the end for info on the new version.

  • OK, made the changes (both station name and GPS off) on GC Mobile and it stuck just fine. Sweet; thank you.

There are some "quirks" with app settings right now and they vary based on GE/GCM/iOS/Android. I'm sure they will be fixed soon, but until then, thanks for helping by trying GCM out!
  • Please add epix support please !!!!

I may consider the f3 and other devices.
  • Watch Face

Is it possible to integrate this into a watch face? Ie, I like this... Its very useful, but on a watch face it would be super awesome. Might not even be a possibility though.

It's not possible. Watchfaces are very restricted in what they can do to conserve battery. A watchface can't access GPS, the HRM, Tempe Sensor, or record the activity, or even update the screen more than every minute most of the time.
  • Battery

And that is probably why Android Wear watches last 1 day on a charge, and this lasts a week.

Actually, I do have a "app" version of this widget, but it's not in the store yet. (I want to make sure the widget is stable first.)

With that, the first screen looks like a watch face (steps, move bar, etc), along with Temperature. The second screen looks like the widget, and the 3rd screen has a forecast (up to 6 lines of test), and the 4th screen has sunrise/sunset/moon.

It will update the conditions every 20 minutes (configurable), and the forecase every other time it gets the conditions.

It does burn more battery than a watchface, but I think within reason!
  • App

Forgive me for my ignorance, but I have been using the VivoActive for about 1 day.

Could it be set so that the app ran for a set number of hours (say, 3-4 hours?... or all day even?)

If it updated every 15 minutes, I don't think it would affect batterylife too much.

I'd love to try it when you get it ready.

Nope. Not possible. With it being an app and not a watchface, it can run as long as you want. On the va it's on the same screen where you see "walk", "run", etc.

Here's something similar (an app) that I did for the Tempe Sensor. You can run it as much as you want, and it gets updates from the Tempe about every minute, but is a bit harder on the battery as a result!

It's only one screen, as the Tempe only tells me the temperature and nothing more.
  • App

Keeping it on all the time would be fine by me. I just want to see time and wind. That way when I am out kiteboarding I can keep an eye on what the wind is doing.

I am coming from Android Wear where watch faces can be live. That being said, I am really enjoying the battery life on the VivoActive compared to Android wear and it does 90% of what Android Wear does.

Thanks for your work on this.

When I publish the WU app, you can run that as long as you want, but remember you'll need to have your phone with you to get updates.

With the "Time and Tempe" app, it gives you the temperature where you are, with no need for a phone, but it doesn't give you wind speed.
