Data Field: Dozen Run Fields

Dozen Run, Swim, Paddle and Cycle Data Fields
After others are forcing you to pay for these applications, so I decided to make a great data field(s) and then keep them free. I'm a Software engineer, sponsored runner and run coach, I combined my engineering and running knowledge to bring you these streamline applications.

I put thousands of hours of bench and field testing these simple applications. So, consider a small donation.

Install Instructions:
This Data field needs to be added to the (specific) app within your watch to view.

This is a data field not an application and needs to be added to a single data screen within an application.
a.) Goto settings,apps,run,data screen,screen 1
b.)Set Layout to 1 Field
c.) Set Field 1 to ConnectIQ Fields, DozenRun
d.) run happy!

INSTALL ISSUES:
-"!" Issue: If you receive a "!", completely uninstall, reboot and then reinstall. The Setting file changed and the automated Garmin install is not replacing the setting file.
-Download Issue: if you have the "App requires an update before install", hard reboot your watch TWICE and install again.
-TIMER Issue: If you update/install and you see the TIMER and don't see the Dozen data field.
--The data field update or install may require a restart of watch.
--Or the data field needs added to the built-in application, again.

These are becoming a Data Field Suite, where all field are similar making it easier to read while in an activity.

The Dozen fields are intended for training, the data field works fine for speed work, track or races, but readability in these conditions maybe tougher.

IMPORTANT: If you have a Question, recommendation or problem.
Please provide as much as possible (for example the following):

1.) Watch type, Watch firmware version and ConnectIQ version.
2. programmed from Garmin Connect (phone type) or Garmin Express
3.) Which data field
4.) description of issue
5.) if its a "!" error include the error log from your watch. Connect your watch to a PC using USB cable. The error log is located x:\GARMIN\APPS\LOGS. copy the listing and paste in the post.

Description for all fields
--All watch types are support for all data fields. Coded simple to keep bugs at minimum.
-Race Prediction completely configurable for any distance. Distance is entered in meters. Enter 1%-2% longer distance to adjust for normal GPS error and better race prediction.
-Cadence either from watch, footpod or crank cadence. Color coded to provide instant readability
-Heart Rate field is configurable to several methods: calculation (default), manual entered max HR, or individual zones Color coded to provide instant readability
-Pace/Speed is a rolling average to give a smooth reading configurable from 1 second to 120 seconds (Metric or statute by user setting)
-Distance is the total distance for the activity (Metric or statute by user setting)
-Timer is the actual time of the active time. Not Elapsed time.
- Battery meter uses the entire screen for reliability and acts as a divide to help focus one the upper fields.
-Avg Pace\Speed is a Garmin's provided datafield. (Metric or statute by user setting)
-Calories is the activity calories.
-Elevation based on Garmin's values. (Metric or statute by user setting)
-Time of day either in 12hr or 24 hour (based on user setting)
-(Fenix3/920)Auto background color Black or White background based on app settings
-(230/235) Configurable background color Black or White background (user configuration)
-GPS uses same indicator as iPhone for GPS signal. 5=full, 4=usable, 3=poor, 2=unused, 1= last location & 0 = no GPS
-Blue Tooth connectivity is shown as a blue "B"
-Paddle Stroke distance is a calculated by actual speed / cadence. Displayed in Meters/Feet.

  • NIccy,
make sure the cadence adjust value is 1. I also updated the app v4.1 in the App Store in insure that value is never 0.
if it is still zero contact me directly.
    thanks
  • Hi

I'm using dozen dozen cycle and dozen run for a while at a 735XT. Additionally I still use Garmin Trainings Center. To be compatible, I had to change the parameter enable graphing to NO for both Apps after each update. Dozen Run version 5.3 still works fine - not yet updated to the last version of the store. After updating Dozen Cycle to version 4.4.6., I'm not able to import any activity, ... to the Garmin Training Center. No matter if Enable Graphing is set to NO or YES. Is this a new bug or do you have any ideas for a workaround? Thanks in advance.
  • Hi,
I'm using DozenRun withn my new fenix5s. In the upper left field aHR is always displayed instead of CAD as in my fr235 and i can't see a way to change it in options. Is it intended to work like this or is it a bug?
    Thanks!
  • while running your cadence/cadence color is displayed. when stopped the average heart rate is displayed.

    my bad, just saw this
-IQ v2.x only: Shows Average Heart Rate when stopped or walking.

    Thanks!
  • I can make an update for the color. I have a VA3 and yes that is the case. Only one selection for all screens,. i suggest requesting in the VA3 forums to add that functionality.

The color still covers the whole field on my watch. Just curious if I missed the update, or you haven't gotten to this one yet?
  • CAD and HR are way too small. I don't think that I can read that properly during my run tomorrow. Pace and distance should be smaller. As small as average pace and time below. Then there would be more space for the two values on top.

Another problem: The settings descriptions inside Connect Mobile are cut off. Sometimes I don't know what they mean. First setting is a "6", standard settings. What is "6"?
  • I ran with Dozen Run today. As I mentioned, CAD and HR were hard to read. Glad they are colored... Bottom fields (elevation and calories) are too small. I don't think that I need new glasses. Time, well, that was possible. Pace and distance same size as average pace and timer and CAD and HR could be a bit larger.

Now I see my running stats on Garmin Connect Web. WTF happend to cadence? It's not shown as values between 150 and 180 but as 75 to 90! So the line is red... Shows only one foot values! In Garmin Connect Mobile the cadence is fine, between 150 and 180.
  • @Tisztul_A_Visztula I'm planning to make the Dozen Run more configurable in the next release, so I think that will address your question. However, this feature will only be for the IQ 2.x watchs(i.e. VAHR, VA3, Fenix5family, FR 935,735, etc.)

    Hi Fbbbrown,

may I have a question, this time about Dozen Walk. As you may remember, finally I opted for it on my Fenix 3 HR instead of Dozen Run due to the flexibility of the former. I mean both for walk, hike and all of my 5 run profiles/apps.

Last time I realized that the speed/pace of Dozen Walk is not in line with the speed/data of my other gadgets abd neither with the inbuilt speed/pace data fields of my Fenix 3 HR.

I guess there is a rolling data there similarly to the default of Dozen Run and Cycle, so it may be parameterized to 6. But it is not settable in Dozen Walk.

Could you please make it an option? Is it possible in the future?

    thanks

As for the Font sizes, I make them as large as I can, using what is available. As for the cadence, data fields in general only display the values given to the data field from the watch hardware, as does dozen run. you are encountering a watch bug or your footpod needs a new battery.
