Data Field: Dozen Run Fields

Dozen Run, Swim, Paddle and Cycle Data Fields
After others are forcing you to pay for these applications, so I decided to make a great data field(s) and then keep them free. I'm a Software engineer, sponsored runner and run coach, I combined my engineering and running knowledge to bring you these streamline applications.

I put thousands of hours of bench and field testing these simple applications. So, consider a small donation.
Small donations (help keep my effort going) paypal.me/fbbbrown

Install Instructions:
This Data field needs to be added to the (specific) app within your watch to view.

This is a data field not an application and needs to be added to a single data screen within an application.
a.) Goto settings,apps,run,data screen,screen 1
b.)Set Layout to 1 Field
c.) Set Field 1 to ConnectIQ Fields, DozenRun
d.) run happy!

INSTALL ISSUES:
-"!" Issue: If you receive a "!", completely uninstall, reboot and then reinstall. The Setting file changed and the automated Garmin install is not replacing the setting file.
-Download Issue: if you have the "App requires an update before install", hard reboot your watch TWICE and install again.
-TIMER Issue: If you update/install and you see the TIMER and don't see the Dozen data field.
--The data field update or install may require a restart of watch.
--Or the data field needs added to the built-in application, again.

These are becoming a Data Field Suite, where all field are similar making it easier to read while in an activity.

The Dozen fields are intended for training, the data field works fine for speed work, track or races, but readability in these conditions maybe tougher.

IMPORTANT: If you have a Question, recommendation or problem.
Please provide as much as possible (for example the following):

1.) Watch type, Watch firmware version and ConnectIQ version.
2. programmed from Garmin Connect (phone type) or Garmin Express
3.) Which data field
4.) description of issue
5.) if its a "!" error include the error log from your watch. Connect your watch to a PC using USB cable. The error log is located x:\GARMIN\APPS\LOGS. copy the listing and paste in the post.

Description for all fields
--All watch types are support for all data fields. Coded simple to keep bugs at minimum.
-Race Prediction completely configurable for any distance. Distance is entered in meters. Enter 1%-2% longer distance to adjust for normal GPS error and better race prediction.
-Cadence either from watch, footpod or crank cadence. Color coded to provide instant readability
-Heart Rate field is configurable to several methods: calculation (default), manual entered max HR, or individual zones Color coded to provide instant readability
-Pace/Speed is a rolling average to give a smooth reading configurable from 1 second to 120 seconds (Metric or statute by user setting)
-Distance is the total distance for the activity (Metric or statute by user setting)
-Timer is the actual time of the active time. Not Elapsed time.
- Battery meter uses the entire screen for reliability and acts as a divide to help focus one the upper fields.
-Avg Pace\Speed is a Garmin's provided datafield. (Metric or statute by user setting)
-Calories is the activity calories.
-Elevation based on Garmin's values. (Metric or statute by user setting)
-Time of day either in 12hr or 24 hour (based on user setting)
-(Fenix3/920)Auto background color Black or White background based on app settings
-(230/235) Configurable background color Black or White background (user configuration)
-GPS uses same indicator as iPhone for GPS signal. 5=full, 4=usable, 3=poor, 2=unused, 1= last location & 0 = no GPS
-Blue Tooth connectivity is shown as a blue "B"
-Paddle Stroke distance is a calculated by actual speed / cadence. Displayed in Meters/Feet.

    DOZEN Swim on Vivoactive HR

Good evening, as the title says, any chance to see this data field soon working on vivoactive hr? It looks like I cant find any custom swim data beside the native ones from Garmin ( kinda limited, just two fields changeable)
thanks in advance for your answer and keep up with your work
    Matteo
  • One thing that I find slightly annoying with all the Dozen fields: The splash screen. I quite often play around with the settings, check whether cadence (bike sensor) is shown correctly etc. and when I use Dozen Cycle I always have to start an activity to do so. That triggers all sorts of things (like starting a live track session and emailing my emergency contacts and if I forget to not save the activity it will sync to Strava and Runkeeper).

I understand that you want - and deserve very rightfully so - recognition for your excellent work (kudos for enabling power calculations on the 735XT, can't wait to try this out, saves me another ConnectIQ field) but could you make the splash screen disappear after a given amount of time?

Or make it with a larger clock - I am like yourself I dont start until I am actually heading and often I need to check the time for leaving to meet a mate but the clock is tiny!
  • bugs?

I went for a run today with my Vivoactive HR, using this as a data field. The cadence didn't register on my watch for the whole run...it showed 0. Nothing in the graph at the end either. I noticed in the store that there was an update to 3.4.1 dated 1/18, so maybe this was the problem?

I have a couple of other issues, probably not related but I keep forgetting to mention. For some reason, I have 3 entries on my watch for this data field. I have 2 for "DozenRun" and one for "DirtyDozenRunVivoHR" in the ConnectIQ options. I don't know which one is correct. How do I get only 1 to show, and be the correct one? Here is a link to a picture: https://www.dropbox.com/s/15hs8cbnoxp1bd8/2017-01-18%2017.25.22.jpg?dl=0

If I go into the Garmin Connect app on my Android phone, and look at ConnectIQ Apps...Data Fields... I also have the old one listed in there. I try to uninstall it, but it keeps coming back. Here is a picture: https://www.dropbox.com/s/os8mq3inhjrpscx/2017-01-18%2023.23.39.png?dl=0

Maybe the data field on my watch is never updating though? When I go to that screen in the Run app, it indicates that it is still version 3.1 strangely enough, even though the store indicates 3.4.1? Here is the final picture to illustrate: https://www.dropbox.com/s/c3seks49cfgnmx1/2017-01-18%2017.25.07.jpg?dl=0

Can anybody shed some light on how to clear this all up with minimal inconvenience? I imagine I could factory reset my watch, but then I would have to set up everything again, which would be a PITA. Thanks for the help!
  • Another question (that might be buried inside the thread): To get a power estimate Dozen Cycle needs the weight of the cycle gear (default = 20) - what's the unit? Kg oder lbs?

    Dozen run

Thank you for the great datafield!
Adding the MME and RRE have made this avesome dataface even greater for runners.

Maby in the future a chart of estimated running power could also be created ( if memory allows) like: https://apps.garmin.com/fi-FI/apps/feb99edf-4048-455b-94b9-a8848b139d14

Another fun to track chart would be vo2max chart (momentary vo2max)

    Anyway
    ...thank you!

    All are metric.

I have looked into these calculations. The 23x, fenix3 and 920 watches will no longer be improved, however I may add these functions to the 735,VAhr and fenix 5 models in the future. This is due to the limited memory available in those models.

Currently, i'm working a walking/hiking data field that is my most advanced and configurable data field. This Datafield will provide 3 additional graphing metrics to follow. The first release will be the fenix line followed by the semi-round watches.
  • VAHR - miles / km

Hello - I just downloaded the latest version 3.4.1 having used DirtyDozen 2.4.1 before.

Thank you for making the heart rate bolded. It's much easier to read.

One thing I noticed that the pace, distance and overall estimated pace field is in KM but elevation is in FT (I am in the US, so I am used to pacing in miles). After reading the description, I saw that it is auto-configured based on system default of the watch.

I changed everything to KM, and the DirtyDozen 2.4.1 correctly shows all metric measurements, as does the 3.4.1. But when I switched system settings back to imperial measurements, the 3.4.1 pace and distance fields remained at KM whereas the old DirtyDozen 2.4.1 correctly displays miles.

Can you take a look at this when you have a chance? Many thanks.

    Albert
