Data Field: Dozen Run Fields

Dozen Run, Swim, Paddle and Cycle Data Fields
After others are forcing you to pay for these applications, so I decided to make a great data field(s) and then keep them free. I'm a Software engineer, sponsored runner and run coach, I combined my engineering and running knowledge to bring you these streamline applications.

I put thousands of hours of bench and field testing these simple applications. So, consider a small donation.

Install Instructions:
This Data field needs to be added to the (specific) app within your watch to view.

This is a data field not an application and needs to be added to a single data screen within an application.
a.) Goto settings,apps,run,data screen,screen 1
b.)Set Layout to 1 Field
c.) Set Field 1 to ConnectIQ Fields, DozenRun
d.) run happy!

INSTALL ISSUES:
-"!" Issue: If you receive a "!", completely uninstall, reboot and then reinstall. The Setting file changed and the automated Garmin install is not replacing the setting file.
-Download Issue: if you have the "App requires an update before install", hard reboot your watch TWICE and install again.
-TIMER Issue: If you update/install and you see the TIMER and don't see the Dozen data field.
--The data field update or install may require a restart of watch.
--Or the data field needs added to the built-in application, again.

These are becoming a Data Field Suite, where all field are similar making it easier to read while in an activity.

The Dozen fields are intended for training, the data field works fine for speed work, track or races, but readability in these conditions maybe tougher.

IMPORTANT: If you have a Question, recommendation or problem.
Please provide as much as possible (for example the following):

1.) Watch type, Watch firmware version and ConnectIQ version.
2. programmed from Garmin Connect (phone type) or Garmin Express
3.) Which data field
4.) description of issue
5.) if its a "!" error include the error log from your watch. Connect your watch to a PC using USB cable. The error log is located x:\GARMIN\APPS\LOGS. copy the listing and paste in the post.

Description for all fields
--All watch types are support for all data fields. Coded simple to keep bugs at minimum.
-Race Prediction completely configurable for any distance. Distance is entered in meters. Enter 1%-2% longer distance to adjust for normal GPS error and better race prediction.
-Cadence either from watch, footpod or crank cadence. Color coded to provide instant readability
-Heart Rate field is configurable to several methods: calculation (default), manual entered max HR, or individual zones Color coded to provide instant readability
-Pace/Speed is a rolling average to give a smooth reading configurable from 1 second to 120 seconds (Metric or statute by user setting)
-Distance is the total distance for the activity (Metric or statute by user setting)
-Timer is the actual time of the active time. Not Elapsed time.
- Battery meter uses the entire screen for reliability and acts as a divide to help focus one the upper fields.
-Avg Pace\Speed is a Garmin's provided datafield. (Metric or statute by user setting)
-Calories is the activity calories.
-Elevation based on Garmin's values. (Metric or statute by user setting)
-Time of day either in 12hr or 24 hour (based on user setting)
-(Fenix3/920)Auto background color Black or White background based on app settings
-(230/235) Configurable background color Black or White background (user configuration)
-GPS uses same indicator as iPhone for GPS signal. 5=full, 4=usable, 3=poor, 2=unused, 1= last location & 0 = no GPS
-Blue Tooth connectivity is shown as a blue "B"
-Paddle Stroke distance is a calculated by actual speed / cadence. Displayed in Meters/Feet.

  • Oh, I see it's already updated..
    Awesome! :D

In the settings it says Calories/Total Ascent though when I guess it should say Elevation/Total Ascent.
I love having Calories on the bottom left by the way. Please don't change that. :)

    EDIT:
Ah, I see.. it's the bottom left that changed now, not the bottom right.
It would be great to be able to see Calories and Total Ascent.
Would you consider leaving the lower left settings like they are now and make it possible to set the lower right between Calories/Altitude?

Got Dozen Paddle working - many thanks

You're trying to run an app in the settings, you need to set it up first, then run it... remember this is a datafield, not an App

    Try this:

Settings > Apps > Add New > Paddleboarding (or SUP or Rowing)

    then

    Settings > Apps > Paddleboarding > Data Screens > Screen 1 > Layout 1 Field > select Dozen Paddle

    then

Go back to watch face . Start > Paddleboarding > wait for GPS > Start

You can go back and edit the Paddlebaording App and rename it to Kayaking (or whatever) and add different data pages etc.

Many thanks Pete, got Paddle working, renamed from 'Other' and been out on a 10km and seems to have all worked.
Still figuring the device out as only had a few days...
Is there a way for all of the data that is in the Dozen Paddle app to show on Garmin Connect as seems to have picked up the main ones like distance, heart rate, etc, but not cadence or other data?
    Many thanks again.

I'm loving this data field the last couple months! Great job on it.

Was curious - I went to update this morning and noticed I was prompted to allow the "Your Garmin ConnectTm fitness profile" permission for the data field in order to update to the latest version.

Did something change with the SDK that this is now needed?

    Thanks

    Sorry about the off topic...

Yes, you can get more parameters displayed in Garmin Connect (GC) and Garmin Connect Mobile (GCM), depending on which App you use.

If you use the SUP App, you'll be able to see distance per stroke and stroke rate in GC and GCM
If you use the Paddleboarding App (under Other), you'll only see Stroke Rate in GC, not GCM

You'll have to play around with different options to suite your needs. Bear in mind that some of the displayed data changes in GCM if you edit the activity from SUP to Paddling, but the stroke parameters will still be there in GC.

This has been in since the beginning. It used for your date of birth and HR calculation.

In DozenPaddle, Distance per stroke is a data field calculation and is not available through the Garmin SDK. However, that doesn't mean that Garmin doesn't support that data within the Connect Apps/web site. Yes you will need to use the correct app i.e. "SUP" to get the paddle related metrics in connect.
  • Just updated to Dozen Run 1.8.2 for the Fenix 3.
It's great to see that we can now have calories and ascent/altitude at the same time.
    Will try it today. :)

    EDIT:
    It works great now. :)
Since it seems some people like to have elevation visible too, would it be possible to have it alternating between accumulated ascent and elevation? Like every 5 or 10 seconds?
  • Average Lap Pace

Thanks for a great data field! I find everything great, but would prefer the average pace to be my average lap pace. I find the short interval of the average pace at the moment not to be useful on long runs. I normally work off of average lap pace, but would prefer to not have to switch between screens. Also, since this is a standard data field it should not require extra processing to calculate (I hope).

Sorry, Lap data is not available through the SDK therefore I cannot add to the run fields. Creating a custom average pace based on an auto Lap distance is possible but there is likely not enough available memory to do so.
  • Reboots during activity

Anyone here use the Kayaking app and having reboots during activity on the F3? I'm trying to see whats causing it, was thinking a memory issue with the F3 and this app?

EDIT: after some digging I've established that the problem started after the fenix3 7.36b update, which introduced "improved pace for paddlesports". I wonder if that smoothing of the pace uses additional memory resources and when used in conjunction with the dozen paddle app can cause a crash?
