Data Field: Dozen Run Fields

Dozen Run, Swim, Paddle and Cycle Data Fields
After others are forcing you to pay for these applications, so I decided to make a great data field(s) and then keep them free. I'm a Software engineer, sponsored runner and run coach, I combined my engineering and running knowledge to bring you these streamline applications.

I put thousands of hours of bench and field testing these simple applications. So, consider a small donation.

Install Instructions:
This Data field needs to be added to the (specific) app within your watch to view.

This is a data field not an application and needs to be added to a single data screen within an application.
a.) Goto settings,apps,run,data screen,screen 1
b.)Set Layout to 1 Field
c.) Set Field 1 to ConnectIQ Fields, DozenRun
d.) run happy!

INSTALL ISSUES:
-"!" Issue: If you receive a "!", completely uninstall, reboot and then reinstall. The Setting file changed and the automated Garmin install is not replacing the setting file.
-Download Issue: if you have the "App requires an update before install", hard reboot your watch TWICE and install again.
-TIMER Issue: If you update/install and you see the TIMER and don't see the Dozen data field.
--The data field update or install may require a restart of watch.
--Or the data field needs added to the built-in application, again.

These are becoming a Data Field Suite, where all field are similar making it easier to read while in an activity.

The Dozen fields are intended for training, the data field works fine for speed work, track or races, but readability in these conditions maybe tougher.

IMPORTANT: If you have a Question, recommendation or problem.
Please provide as much as possible (for example the following):

1.) Watch type, Watch firmware version and ConnectIQ version.
2. programmed from Garmin Connect (phone type) or Garmin Express
3.) Which data field
4.) description of issue
5.) if its a "!" error include the error log from your watch. Connect your watch to a PC using USB cable. The error log is located x:\GARMIN\APPS\LOGS. copy the listing and paste in the post.

Description for all fields
--All watch types are support for all data fields. Coded simple to keep bugs at minimum.
-Race Prediction completely configurable for any distance. Distance is entered in meters. Enter 1%-2% longer distance to adjust for normal GPS error and better race prediction.
-Cadence either from watch, footpod or crank cadence. Color coded to provide instant readability
-Heart Rate field is configurable to several methods: calculation (default), manual entered max HR, or individual zones Color coded to provide instant readability
-Pace/Speed is a rolling average to give a smooth reading configurable from 1 second to 120 seconds (Metric or statute by user setting)
-Distance is the total distance for the activity (Metric or statute by user setting)
-Timer is the actual time of the active time. Not Elapsed time.
- Battery meter uses the entire screen for reliability and acts as a divide to help focus one the upper fields.
-Avg Pace\Speed is a Garmin's provided datafield. (Metric or statute by user setting)
-Calories is the activity calories.
-Elevation based on Garmin's values. (Metric or statute by user setting)
-Time of day either in 12hr or 24 hour (based on user setting)
-(Fenix3/920)Auto background color Black or White background based on app settings
-(230/235) Configurable background color Black or White background (user configuration)
-GPS uses same indicator as iPhone for GPS signal. 5=full, 4=usable, 3=poor, 2=unused, 1= last location & 0 = no GPS
-Blue Tooth connectivity is shown as a blue "B"
-Paddle Stroke distance is a calculated by actual speed / cadence. Displayed in Meters/Feet.

  • Howdy - I have been using your data field on my Fenix 3 and was wondering if you make it compatible with the Fenix 2 HR?

    Many thanks.
    MD

I believe it is already. I will verify that the fenix3 hr is selected as a target
  • Thank you for all the great work you're putting in to develop and maintain this data field.

I have a couple of requests regarding important features that you have recently removed and one feature that would be awesome to add if possible.

    1. Please re-enable the HR Zone 2 indication.
For endurance runners and many athletes in general, this is the HR zone where many professionals argue that one should spend most of the training.
Of course we need to work in Zone 4/5 too but it would really be great to have the blue Zone 2 indication back.

    2. Please return the choice to show Acc. Ascent instead of only altitude.
Altitude is kinda useless unless you're at 3000m/9000ft or something.
Normal altitudes are irrelevant to training but accumulated ascent is a very useful metric.

    3. Please make it possible to have the HR Field with Zone indication as one of the big and easy to read fields.
A lot of athletes train more with HR targets than actual speed in order to optimize training and the benefits.
Suggestion: Enable an option to move the metrics in the right column down a notch.
    - HR where distance is now, Distance where timer is now and Timer where hr is now.
This would make the most important metrics very easy to read when doing HR targeted training.
Since the Fenix 3 is a trail watch I think it makes even more sense to make these changes.
On the trail, speed is often not a very meaningful metric but HR always is.

These things would not take anything away from the current function but it would add to it tremendously.
If this is not something you will consider then I ask that you make earlier versions available so that we can at least get the HR Zone 2 blue indication back.

Again, thanks for your great work! :)

It's garmin limit of available memory that is really limiting my data field. I can bring back 60% and maybe the accent.
For example I'm working on a data field for the edge line and it has 8x more memory than the fenix. I can do everything on that model.
The HR field I found the color zones are easier to see.

I understand that the memory limitation is a bit crippling.
Thanks a lot for your efforts.

Zone 2 / 60% blue indication and ascent would be absolutely great.

Earlier you were writing about making it open source.
How complicated would it be to make a "Dozen HR Run Fields" with the right column fields moved down and the bottom field to the top when having the source code?
Or could you even consider making such a data field?

    Hello ,
I use this data field on my Fenix 3 ,it is a great Datafield and my Favorite one !
Could you also display the Heartrate in % of the max. Heartrate instead of the normal Heartrate Field ?

    Many thanks.

    Ralf

Thanks Ralf, I think I can fit that in. It will be a selectable option and the current "Heart Rate" will be the default.
  • It's very nice to have the blue zone 2 indication back.
It would be great if there was a setting for the HR value though.
As it is now, it gets blue for me while I'm still at least 5 bpm from my zone 2.

white bg on fenix 3 hr?

Is it really so that one can only adjust bg white/black through app setting?

So not possible to have black bg in app but the dozen runfield in white?

    Bike for 920

    Hi.

Just wanted to say that your Run for FR920 looks great. I am going to install it and test it out.

Do you maybe have a timeframe on when you plan to release Bike for FR920? I recently got a MTB and need a good app for that.

    Thank you in advance.
  • Feature request for indoor cycling

    Hi!
Thank you for this excellent data field!
I would like to suggest a feature for indoor cycling training. The altitude is useless here, but I would like to see the power measurement of my roller trainer. Thus the idea is to show power instead of altitude if GPS is not available (or maybe configurable).
