  • Serial number issue

Love the app. Great idea to give extra functionality to my Fenix 3. I downloaded the app and inputted the serial number no problem. I did the same on the website and entered a few cArds but couldn't get it to synchronise. When I checked the website had one digit less than my watch for serial number. Tried again, wouldn't let me input the final digit and also seemed to lose the inputted cards. I have also emailed you. Hope you can resolve add I love the concept.

Problem solved. I had used the unit ID which is different to the serial number on the connect IQ app. Tried that and worked fine. Will try to use the scans later.

    Hi Kevin,
    That's right!

Thanks for sharing here your experience.

  • Hi, installed the app on my Fenix 3 and looks good but it seems like there might be a compatibility issue with the latest Fenix 3 beta software (6.08). The app runs fine but problems start when exiting back to the clock screen. From there, the start button no longer brings up the list of apps, it just freezes the clock. Pressing back again starts the clock again but eventually ends up rebooting the watch.

The beta has support for ConnectIQ 1.2 so wonder if this could be the reason?

    Hi Mguk,
I will test ConnectIQ1.2 beta soon, first off to open WatchOut! to vivoactive. I will release only when both ConnectIQ and watch firmware are stable.

Regarding you experience with Fenix 3 beta software (6.08) we are talking about a watch firmware beta, I do expect strange behaviors.
I will keep your post in mind of course! Thanks!
  • Just to let you know this is now working fine on the latest Fenix beta 6.11.

  • I tried this today. I am part of the team at basingstoke parkrun and took a scanner to one side before the run and tried multiple times and as half expected, the parkrun handheld scanners are not powerful enough for this to work.

To be honest, it may be best to remove parkrun from the list to avoid getting peoples hopes up and then people getting cross each week when they are told it does not work. Especially if they do not bring a paper barcode thinking the watch will be fine.

It looks like WatchOut! renders Parkrun barcodes (and many other barcodes) with just a single pixel resolution per vertical line, which isn't adequate for many laser-based scanners - such as those used by Parkrun.

I've written a specific Parkrun widget that maximises the size of the barcode for the specifc watch model display:
    https://twitter.com/mrjeffcoat/status/665166766058938369
The widget computes everything on the watch, so no need for connecting to external services.

I'll be submitting it to the ConnectIQ store after some field testing. My local Parkrun is Reading, so perhaps I'll pop down an be a Parkrun tourist at Basingstoke later this month!

What model of watch do you have?
Would you like to beta test?
