Sometimes it's impossible to edit post with http link

I've tried e.g.

https://forums.garmin.com/developer/connect-iq/f/showcase/326352/psx-7-barnote

even simple EDIT and POST without any changes causes infinite operation

test edit

  • It's probably the old bug that was reported months ago where many posts had the same problem. EDIT or maybe not, because in those cases, a cloudflare error was returned. EDIT2: actually for me, it is a cloudflare error after all.

The workaround is to de-linkify the url when you edit the post.

    1) Click anywhere on link/url

    2) Press CTRL-K / CMD-K to open the link editor

    3) Delete the contents of the Url field

Now you will have a url in plain text (ofc if the url was abbreviated, you will have to fix it manually). Avoid changing the plain text url to a link before you submit the post.

Things that will change a plain text url to a link:

    - pressing space when the cursor is at the end of a plain text url (this automatically linkifies the url)

    - using CTRL-K / CMD-K to manually create a link

When you submit your post, plain text urls will normally be linkified by the forum anyway (unless you run into that bug where it doesn't happen, or if you surround the plain text with [ ].)

Ofc the problem with this workaround is that you can't have a link where the text isn't the url (or abbreviated url)

  • Or maybe in the case of https://forums.garmin.com/developer/connect-iq/f/showcase/326352/psx-7-barnote, the post is simply too long.

We've also seen problems where the forum can't/won't handle long posts.

  • I also can't edit showcase posts any more, but I've had enough of reporting things to /dev/null that Garmin both don't care nor has the expertees to fix.

  • I also can't edit showcase posts any more

Yeah, I see the same thing with https://forums.garmin.com/developer/connect-iq/f/showcase/7667/run-power-data-field

A simple edit (add "." to the end) spins forever. Looking at the network console, the response *is* a cloudflare error after all:

So I think it's the same root cause as almost all the other forum errors (cloudflare hates us :/), but the symptom is different (in other cases, we see the orange error alert, but in this case, the edit submission just spins forever).

I figure it's because all of these app showcase posts are super long with lots of images, links, and formatting, which apparently looks to cloudflare like we are trying to attack the forums (by posting actual content ig).

  • Anyway, can't wait for Garmin to announce Forums+ which will add a ton of new features (like a mobile UX that sucks slightly less and emojis newer than 2014?) but fix none of these issues, for the super low yearly price of $99.99.

Who am I kidding, they would sooner shutter the forums altogether (like most companies did 10+ years ago).
