Any chance for our beloved Garmin wizzards adapting their Tempe Data Field app :)

Would be a nice cold weather project.

Only caveat is that the Tempe data is not saved in the fit file :(

Tempe data field is working fine on the FR920XT.

Looking for my savior for help and support ;)

  • Hey,

We've actually got a ticket to add this eventually. There are several other projects that are taking priority at the moment, but we hear what you want!

    Thanks,

    my savior...

There isn't a lot to look out for in regards to CIQ version going up to 1.4.4 unless you are a CIQ developer. The version change included some bug fixes that help developers that are making apps for that version. The person downloading the app would benefit from the fixes. If you are seeing any issues with CIQ apps we would recommend contacting the developer so that could be investigated.

The Garmin Tempe datafield does not work on CIQ 1.4.4...it shows the icon "IQ!"
CIQ 1.4.4 provided through firmware 941beta for 920xt

did i forget some procedure to accomplish ?

this made me not being happy anymore :)

  • That would almost certainly indicate a bug. You may wish to post something in the bugs forum.

    gasteropod...will do that to...

I find it strange that users must contact developers for bugs on CIQ 1.4.4 in beta firmware.
Garmin could do this themselves more efficiently.
Garmin could notify developers with apps build based on the previous CIQ version in the store.
    Garmin could...

But hey it is only beta.

I also wonder on what criteria CIQ 1.4.4 is going to be used on the next production firmware version.
They should wait to publish until all available apps in the store are updated for running on CIQ 1.4.4
    Just my two cents ;)
    ...
  • When a CIQ app crashes, it is more likely to be a bug in the CIQ app than in the firmware, although this is not always the case (as seen with watch face crashes with recent 5X firmware). Even if a certain version of firmware stimulates the crash, it could be that this is simply exposing an existing CIQ app bug which was not uncovered with older firmware. And in most cases, the app developer is best placed to determine if it's a bug in their code or a problem with the watch firmware. In cases where it is obvious that the CIQ crash is caused by firmware, for example when multiple apps fail in the same way, then this should be reported direct to garmin, using the beta email address if this is beta firmware.

    agree with that ;)

in my case Garmin is cause and solution...
issuing an update in their own CIQ platform and not updating their own apps
just leaving it to the users finding out if their installed apps were going to crash or not
    ...
why not first notify developers about the CIQ update instead of letting users experience this mishap on their devices
    ...
providing beta's can be helpfull with finding bugs, but it can also show hickups in the workflow(procedures) concerning Garmin-CIQ-Developers-Users
    ...
    nice topic :o
  • OneTwo. There has actually been a beta sdk out for us for some time, and 1.4.4 on other devices for some time. the 1.4.3 to 1.4.4 firmware update shouldn't have caused any problems for apps, but it seems you found one where it did. As an app developer, I couldn't even tell you what changed between 1.4.3 and 1.4.4 - likely just some bug fixes.

The Tempe Data field is really only useful on the 920, as with other watches, there's already a native Df that displays it.

Jim thank you for the background info
I know the FR230 and FR630 got also a beta firmware 7.51 with update CIQ 1.4.3 to CIQ 1.4.4

Only had the Tempe DataField running for a week...and then this :)

How do you think about the idea ...that developers would be recuired updating all their apps with the latest CIQ version available
