Animated Gif as cover in the app store

Hi,

I detected an app which has an animated Gif as cover in the app store. I created also an animated gif with this tutorial:

Directly after uploading still on the edit app's description page the Gif is still animated. But if I publish the new description the gif is still again. Has anyone any idea on that?

No, still transformed to flat image as soon as I upload.

Personally, I find animated gifs really distracting on the main page of the app store. Looks like there is a way some are showing again.

there are several covers which are animated. Is this done via another mechanism?

I'm guessing they may keep working if they were there before the change. Brandon and Coleman will know for sure

This was the bit that made me suspicious! (That and the way mine don't work for cover image.)

The animated .GIF I upload is 48.4 KB, the static .GIF I receive from the server is 24.4KB.

Definitely something in the middle is modifying my image and killing animation. Animated .GIF works for the info sections, though.

In thinking about this, what may have happened is the app I linked to hasn't changed It's main image for a couple years. If I recall, at some time they stopped accepting animated gifs for the main image, but this one was "grandfathered" in.

I recall back when a number of apps had animated gifs for the main image, the pages in the store got a bit "messy" (my term), as things were animating at different times and speeds, and having static images make it look much cleaner.
