models that support multiple connect IQ app simultaneously

would someone from the developer team Please let me know what watches support four connect IQ data fields simultaneously during an activity. It's very hard to find reliable information and I'm also trying to figure out which watch already has all of the data fields programmed that I'm looking for so comprehensive list would be very appreciated.

Garmin should supply this information with every watch on their website, I have been trying a couple of hours now to find information and there is simply nothing out there. It's only in forums and maybe some reviews but nothing official.

I would be very happy about an answer

  • Why do you repeat everything twice?

Why do you repeat everything twice?

  • One device I haven't actually tried is the Venu X1 (all the other devices in my post I have verified on real devices).  I could see it going either way - match the V4 which it shares a lot with, or go with 4 like the other top tier devices.  If anyone has tried, please chime in.  I'm hoping to have access to one in the near future.

  • Thanks!

Small (unimportant) clarification: Forerunner 735XT supported 3 CIQ fields in a single activity. I don't think it matters that much since this model was released 9 years ago.

  • Ah, interesting.  Thanks.  I never had a chance to play with that one.  So there were two that supported 3 fields.  Wonder why they waited so long to bring more than 2 to any other devices.

  • Some people theorized that the tradeoff with 735XT is that it gained 3 CIQ fields, but lost the ability to return to the watchface during an activity. I don't really buy this explanation 100% since watches in a similar "generation" like FR230 and FR630 did not have that ability either, and they also only had 2 CIQ fields per activity.

There's nothing like running with a smartwatch and someone asks you what time it is but you can't answer because you don't have a time of day field set up and you can't return to the watchface haha.

Maybe the limit used to be practical, and based on resource constraints (memory/CPU), especially when you compare with the 10 field Edge limit (or whatever it is).

But as current situation shows (Fenix 8 / FR970 have 4 CIQ fields, and FR570 has 2), it seems they are just taking this opportunity to do their favourite thing in the world: market segmentation based on software features. Tbh I don't fully understand it in this case, since the feature in question isn't even on the spec sheet. But the same thing can be said about hot keys (lack of hotkeys on lower end Forerunners generates complaints in the forums every now and then). You'd think if Garmin wanted to make 4 CIQ fields or hot keys a selling point, they would make a point to tell users about them. But instead it's a big secret that some models have Obscure Feature X that power users want. I guess the only way to be sure is to buy the most expensive Garmin possible, then complain that your $1100 USD watch still has bugs!

I do think there are a lot of archaic limits in Garmin watches that may have made sense 10-20 years ago, like:

    - max of 20 workouts (or whatever the limit is)

    - max 16/32 installed CIQ apps (or whatever the limit is)

    - 32/64 character limit on workout names (such that even workouts from Garmin Coach have their names cut off on the watch, and eventually in the activity that's saved to Connect). Great attention to detail here :/

I guess some of these things have changed in recent years like:

    - the limit on locations was increased, I think

    - the default recording mode was changed from smart to 1-second on some devices

  • Ok so we are getting a clear picture now.

Does anybody here use the Enduro 3 and can confirm that it support 4 connect iq datafields simultaneously?

That would seal the deal for me

  • Read my comment above.  Enduro 3 is just an F8 with a different name and some extra battery tweaks.

  • OK now this finally clears everything up.

I want to thank everybody who replied to this post,

I actually did not expect to get such great answers

    this community is quite awesome.

please Garmin if you read this just put this information in the manuals so we don't have to spend a lot of time to search through forms for information that is so easy to just put in the specs of the product page or the manuals.

Please don't get me wrong. I still think Garmin Watches are still the best athletes can use to record their trainings. So why don't make us and also some of the power users happier with such an easy task of giving us the information that we were so eagerly looking for, Since we are all very happy with the devices you provide.

    Just some food for thought

I wish all of you a great weekend

    Thank you
