Access Accelerometer data from Polar H10 via BLE

I have a Polar H10 already paired (BLE) with my Edge for heart rate. In Connect IQ I’d like to access the 3 axis accelerometer data from the H10. What are the basic API calls I need to execute to achieve this? This will be my first time working with the BLE part of the API.

The first thing you need is the Ble Profile for the device. That will give you things like the UUIDs for services and characteristics, and what's in a characteristic. You can guess some of this with rfConnect, but maybe not everything you need.

Also, note that to pair (and maybe you need to bond), it's can't pared in the FW. With bands that are ANT and Ble, if they are even set to Ant, they can't be paired in BLE..

First thing I would do is use BleScan https://apps.garmin.com/apps/9bcc8b66-8385-4afb-b93e-f69e01422284

to see what can be seen in CIQ Ble. For many things you can't see the advertised name and sometimes the primary UUID. Things you can see with nRFConnect.

There are two sample apps in the SDK for this. Both are for the Nordic Thingy 52.

If you still want to do this, I'd get the Nordic HW that can be used with the sim The nrf52840 dongle is about $15US last I looked. See this for setup info

Oh, something else to watch for is with CIQ Ble, you max out at 20 bytes when reading/writing.

Interesting! I use Polar H10 and I wrote the ANT+ HRM datafield, and I never realized that h10 has accelerometer in it. Where can I see documentation or even marketing material about that?

The accelerometer is listed on the H10 spec details, as is the ECG voltage data. As to being available over BLE some of it is described in the Polar SDK.

You may want to start with something that just gets the HR from an external monitor using BLE, as that's the basics and you can then add additional data. (if available)

Here's the UUIDs I use in my apps that do that to get you started.

Let us know if you managed to get the accelerometer data via BLE
