Fit Contributor datafield not working on Fenix3

Garmin:

I'm using the FitContributor to write out summary values and a graph to Garmin Connect/GCM. It works on the simulator and monkeygraph for all devices with minSDKversion 1.3.0 and it works on my 920XT:

I'm having reports that it is not working on a Fenix3 and a Fenix3 HR:

This is impossible for me to debug on devices I don't own when it works on the simulator - should it work, and any ideas why it wouldn't work on the F3's? Hopefully it is something I am doing wrong. I can post some code, or send it if needed, but perhaps someone can test it out...

Thanks,
Dave
  • Thanks for the info rst74, hopefully Garmin is paying attention to this thread...
  • Hey Everyone,

We understand that this has been quite a slow moving issue. Unfortunately for us on the Connect IQ team it is a little out of our hands. We do continue to pass on the information provided by you in these forums and new pieces of information like what has been posted this weekend is always helpful. Garmin Connect is a huge ecosystem of which fitcontributer is a small part. We on the Connect IQ team try to give you the developers that best possible (and loudest) voice on the issues that matter to you the most. We will continue to send along anything new that comes up as it comes in.

  • Seriously, 4 months to fix a major issue on the former flagship device?
  • centro autobus

FWIW, I tried a hard reset, formatting, and reinstalling FW 8.20, combined with removing my F3 from Connect (website and Android app), and Express, and deinstalling and reinstalling the app and Express and re-adding the F3 everywhere.

Result: nada. Still doesn't work. I checked the FIT file, the CIQ developer fields are in it, with actual data. Connect (website, app), however, STILL doesn't show it.
  • I know that long bugs like this can be frustrating. This bug will not be fixed with an update to device firmware, SDK, Plugin, Express, or Connect Mobile. The issue resides in the web server side of the Garmin Connect platform. We are doing what we can to work with the necessary teams to resolve this, but are continuing to play a bit of a waiting game. Thank you for your patience.

    Several issues with FitContributor

    Hi,

I'm developing a data field and a full app and in both cases I'm having trouble to display the fit contributions on connect IQ (both web and mobile). Sometimes the data disappears from the activity, one data field is not displayed in the lap (splits) chart, and I couldn't either get the summary on the customs fields right either (they only display "--" )... Are these all issues related to these well-known bugs or am I doing something wrong?

It feels to me that the FitContributor functionality is VERY immature at the moment... Please, get it working or at least make a clear list of the known problems.

    Thank you.
  • MissArchitect - if you're talking about your Steps DF, could there be some kind of conflict as that data may already be in the .fit or is simply something ignored based on sport?

I'm not sure about SPORT_RUNNING, but for SPORT_WALKING and SPORT_HIKING, step data is already there. You just need to set things to see it, but that's it. Here's an example, where I have no user data in the .fit:

  • Thanks for replying, Coleman!
  • Some unitids for fenix3 doesnt fully work in connect environment

I can confirm that for some unitids of the fenix 3 the ciq datafields are not shown in connect. By modifying the unitid inside the fitfile in the device-info field the file is parsed correctly and all data is shown.

I have reported it in extreme details including all fitfiles used to garmin support sweden.

    Hello,

Thank you for reporting this information as it may have helped identify a root cause for us (The Connect IQ team). If you would be so kind, would you mind sending us some or all of those fit files at [email protected]? We can then try to reproduce this and have a better way of attacking the issue. Please include a link to this forum in your email.

    Thank you,
