Device Update Needed

Hey Everyone,

I wanted to take a moment to let you know that we have discovered an issue where the app store is telling users to update their device firmware even though they are running the current version. This means that they are unable to download until the store thinks that they have the correct version. We do have a ticket open to address the issue and the fix should be implemented soon, but we wanted to let you know as we know that you field many emails and posts from users as well. Thanks for your patience and for continuing to grow our community!

  • Brand new fenix 3HR

What everyone else has said, cannot download almost any app.

This is sad. This is aggravating. This is an expensive mistake.

I raised a ticket and I will give Garmin a few days to fix it and if not, the watch is going back.
  • Try what's suggested in the post right before yours.

What happens is that at times, the app store gets out of sync with what firmware is installed on the watch. The steps above should get things back in sync.

Thank you. After reading everything, I figured out that the background DB's get out of sync, so I have to force-sync' it. I deleted the watch out of garmin connect on my phone, restarted the app and watch, and then reconnected. Voila!

Still, sad on Garmin's part. Reminds me a lot of how Blackberry used to operate.
  • ncelik - the good news is this seems to often be a one time thing (right after someone gets a new device and there been a major FW update since leaving the factory). I've had a CIQ device since early 2015, and picked up a few more over time, and actually never seen it myself.

But... I've gotten somewhere between 100-200 "Contact Developer" emails about it over the last few months. I just hope it get's resolved soon, as with "black friday" and the holidays, there could be a number of new users that run into it.
  • Hey Everyone,

I wanted to give a little update on this issue. We've asked the different teams involved to make sure that correct software information is being sent to Garmin Connect, but there seems to be a few missteps still happening. So, I have created another ticket to hopefully renew the effort to get this issue fixed across the board. I will keep you all posted as soon as I find out more information.

Thank you for all you do!

  • Device Updated Needed with new & updated Forerunner 630

When I try to download an app/watchface from Connect IQ site, I get this error:
"This app requires an update of your Forerunner 630. Please use Garmin Express to update your Forerunner 630."

Just bought the 630. Ran all the updates and rebooted the watch after all was installed. Verified latest firmware running (7.10) in the settings on the watch.

Tried Safari, Firefox, and Chrome browsers.
Tried it with watch plugged into and not plugged into computer.
Tried it with Garmin Connect iPhone app (paired with watch) as well.. same error message.
    Tried re-pairing watch/phone, same thing.
Tried removing "GarminDevice.xml" file from watch (as described a few comments back), restarted watch.... same thing (even after re-pairing with phone and trying again with computer). New GarminDevice.xml file was created on watch.. but contents are same (according to diff).

Submitted a ticket with Garmin.. but it's going back in next couple days if not resolved.

According to this forum this has been an issue for well over 6 months.
I should have learned after what seemed to me like early deaths of two 405s and two 310XTs in ~6 years (fool me once, fool me twice, blah blah, guess I'm an idiot).

    Ridiculous.

So where are this issue standing at the moment? It's been over 6 months since this issue was reported, and I still have this problem with both Garmin Forerunner 235 we have in my household. I find it quite disturbing that this issue is not yet solved. And yeah, I have tried every single suggestion in this thread, but nothing works.

  • Fenix 3 HR - experiencing the same issue

I just received my Garmin Fenix 3 HR and am experiencing the same problem where I'm trying to download a watch face "GearMin" and receive a message.."This app requires an update of your finex 3 HR. Please use Garmin Express to update....". I've tried everything on this post and still no luck. I would appreciate an update.
  • Same issue here with a Garmin Quatix version 8.2 (latest version) where I tried to install Surf Tracker.
    Very disappointed.

Awesome, yet another issue with my Fenix 3. Haven't tried this in a while, overjoyed that I can't download the data field I need.

More great work from Garmin, I'm sorry to say despite all the problems I've had with this Fenix 3 that I purchased my girlfriend a 735xt.

The 735xt may be going back on principle after this latest of a string of ridiculous frustrations with Garmin's inattention to software quality control.
