Is it possible to extend existing run app

I often run using map and found it very anoying. I would like to implement few ideas but leave the rest of the app as is.
Is there a way to extend the existing app using API (not build it from scratch)?

The only way to extend the native Apps is through Data Fields.

These are actually very powerful (if not limited on resource) as most devices support 'single data field' views, which give you full screen access

If it's a CIQ app you're talking about, it can only be extended by the developer or if the developer gives you access to the source code where you can make the changes.

The store says garmin is the developer. I will ask them if they can put some light into the subject. Thanks
