IDE Setup for First App

Hello Everyone,

Would someone point me please to the instruction on setting up Connect IQ development environment for Linux or Mac? I've just downloaded Connect IQ SDK/Manager and now what?

This must be something too obvious, right? I sense Eclipse is essential here. But where does this Connect IQ SDK install the libraries and all?

Is this somewhere on the surface, but I'm looking too deep?

Thank you for responding, thank you for your support.

The link you've posted (well, it appears the main starting page, Welcome to Connect IQ) is very scarce (stingy?) on information about setting up an IDE. There's a mention of VS Code, but there's nothing definitive there. Reading the Getting Started page tells me nothing about setting up the IDE, and that VS Code is preferred.

I'm going to do a naive thing here, and offer an advice as a new-comer in this space: the set of information available to new-comers, wanting to get started with Connect IQ really needs to be updated and expanded. What's there is not very helpful.

IDE setup instructions are missing (VS Code and Eclipse, if this is someone's choice/option), developer ID instructions are missing, developer key instructions are not obvious.

Looking through the forum here and the Web I can see this is something other people ask about too.

Now, this developer ID, when I got to https://apps.garmin.com/en-US/ and sign in, there nothing resembling ID in the URL. Am I missing the elephant in the room?

PS. Don't get me wrong — I appreciate the free help on tap here, but I think it would be easier to create more flow in this space for new developers, to help them unleash their creativity.

Just read through the page. It actually has links to how to setup the vscode IDE. I'm going to say, you use a lot of words to say I havent read the docs.

:) Yes, Jim. You are right — I have not read the docs because I could not get to them. Not very clearly signposted. And a bit sparse.

I'm using my many words to suggest that the docs are placed/organised in a way that's not very conducive to getting started.

But at least we are having nice conversations. I appreciate your help indeed.

TL;DR click on your *developer name* on the store website, not the "developer dashboard" link. The resulting URL will contain your developer ID.

This requires that you have at least one app uploaded already.
