Tutorial for Linux (Connect IQ 3.2.3)

Can someone help me with setting up connect iq sdk + eclipse? Eclipse is not necessary, terminal scripts are fine as well as I don't need a lot of them and the eclipse plugin is very basic anyways.

It looks like the process is like following:

check https://developer.garmin.com/connect-iq/sdk/ and find out there is no SDK for linux... at least not if I open this page from within linux
find out that there exists a json file here https://developer.garmin.com/downloads/connect-iq/sdks/sdks.json
get the sdk name from this json and use it in this link: https://developer.garmin.com/downloads/connect-iq/sdks/<DESIRED-SDK-NAME>.zip
finally download the sdk
extract it and find out there is no SDK Manager in it? only era, fit-graph and monkeybrain (last one does not start at all)

Additionally I did the eclipse SDK setup like described here: https://developer.garmin.com/connect-iq/sdk/

The first problem that comes up is that I can't start a SDK manager as I can't find one... Can someone help here?

PS:

I also found this link that contains the sdk manager https://developer.garmin.com/downloads/connect-iq/sdk-manager/connectiq-sdk-manager-linux.zip but this one does not start at all...

I believe that we have tested on Ubuntu 16.04 (yeah, I know it is ancient). For some reason the download page doesn't work with the version of Firefox that comes with that distribution, but you should be able to use Chrome.

Do you try to start it with double clicking on it? I start the sdkmanager from a terminal.

It's not working of course, since it's an unknown file.

And when I try tp start the sdkmanager from terminal, I get this error

"error while loading shared libraries: libwebkitgtk-1.0.so.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory"

I guess, this should be added to SDK for Linux download instructions. Not the specific packages to download (I guess), but at least info, that you should run the sdkmaager via terminal.

On Ubuntu 18:

apt install libwebkitgtk-1.0-0

solves the shared library problem, but then there is another catch. Once you run

bin/sdkmanager

the window is not resizable or scrollable, so the buttons on the final screen cannot be reached - at least on KDE. But there is a hack - right click on the window icon (left upper corner), go into More Actions, Special Window Settings, then you can force-resize the window.

To solve it:
sudo nano /etc/apt/sources.list

Add this entry to the file and save:
deb cz.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu bionic main universe

sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install libwebkitgtk-1.0-0

works on debian 10 Buster

On Arch/Manjaro, you need to install webkitgtk2-bin from the AUR, then the SDK manager mostly works except the sizing issues.

I'd love to help modernize the linux version if possible!

On Ubuntu 18 you just need to install libwebkitgtk from apt, no adding of sources needed.
