Lots of unfair developers (Garmin, where are you?)

Hello guys!

I am terribly annoyed by the fact that a bunch of similar applications appeared in the app store, in which not a drop of heart and effort was invested. At the same time, the number of such applications and developers is growing rapidly.

For example:

https://apps.garmin.com/en-US/developer/c506e11c-06a8-48a8-9c2f-441e3dd87234/apps

https://apps.garmin.com/en-US/developer/9600e368-ac57-4091-a52f-e45b6e507af5/apps

https://apps.garmin.com/en-US/developer/180d3966-8870-4362-af71-575b78c8d6b3/apps

https://apps.garmin.com/en-US/developer/3f5c726a-cf05-4c3a-b840-c315ccbd4bb8/apps

https://apps.garmin.com/en-US/developer/d4dd2adf-d651-4414-9984-01dc83420eb4/apps

Aside from their gaudy watch faces, what do all these developers have in common? That they use the KiezelPay payment system. For this, there is a separate group in Discord, where their curator gives advice on how to sell and what to do to increase your profit.

The developers release a large number of empty updates for their applications and winds up reviews from a large number of their devices. Obviously, all of his applications do not carry any aesthetic or unique meaning, and the developers are trying to sell it for real money. I am not satisfied with the fact that his applications are constantly shown in the list of popular ones, but we understand that this is only because they have given their applications a large number of positive reviews from their accounts. Please consider blocking these developers or limiting their stay in popular applications.

Thank you for attention! And please express your opinion. It seems to me that now a global problem is being born for the entire Garmin ecosystem, which does not pay attention to such developers and does not try to improve the app's rating and ranking system.

  • Thanks a lot for the explanation. I did not know that it was based on the latest release. The thing is that it was on the 5th position, and 8h before I made an update, it dissapeared. It was not even in the list. So, no clue on what might have happened. Now I see that it have came to "normal", and OK, its not the top 8, but at least it appears (on 42th position)... I hope it climbs again... Thanks a lot, really, for putting some light on this mysterious thing...

  • Also remember that both Trending and Most Popular are for all app types, not just watch faces.  You can be dropped from the 1st 8 in trending by any app type for any device "scoring more" in the ranking as seen on the web access to the store,

When using the Connect IQ phone app, the first page and categories will change based on the current device set, so if I have a va3 as the current device, things will change if I switch to an f6.

  • Thank you very much! That difference between the web and the phone app is also something to consider. Thanks a lot for the explanation.

  • Read the reviews of this one, customers are also disappointed not just developers

  • Unfortunately, for the most part only developers are present on this forum. I tried to popularize this problem on the Russian and Polish platforms, but I don't know how to tell a larger number of people about it. Maybe we should call well-known bloggers among Garmin users.

  • I'd give Garmin more time to see what they can do, as it appears as if something is already being done.  "Trending" to me is looking normal again, with different app types, apps coming and going, etc.

This is likely a VERY busy time for them with the conference in a few days, and I'm willing to bet they have a bunch on their plate to get ready and are looking for the best solution here..

  • Interestingly, the fact that the trends are now normal again is the merit of the Garmin moderators or those developers who have stopped cheating reviews.
If this is thanks to Garmin, then I am very glad that the problem is on the agenda and they are trying to solve it. I would like to hear an official response from Garmin to know for sure that the problem is in their field of vision. I'm ready to wait, and I'm also looking forward to their conference. I hope they tell and show a lot of interesting things :)

  • Maybe it's because I've known many of the Garmin folks for almost 6 years, and have spent time with them at the Summits, but I have faith.

Also, when I look at trending now, I see well known apps, by people that have at least been nominated, if not won, CIQ awards in the past.  The real deal.

Everyone wants their own apps to be in trending, but recall, you're up against 100's if not 1000's of other apps.

The basic title of this thread seems wrong to me.  It was never really "Lots of unfair developer".  It seems it was a fairly small number misusing the system.

  • Yes, you may be right. Perhaps the developers themselves, who used the system not so much, but the number of applications that they released and promoted created such a feeling. At least there are about 10 accounts that have been involved in this dishonest business.

  • One thing to ask yourself, is why you are doing CIQ apps.

You'll not get rich, that's for sure.  The devs that might be gaming the system, it's not them, but the guy than manages the payments and takes his significant cut is who makes bank.  They are actually being used it seems.

Generating a bunch of clone WFs with the same basic functionality but a different background to me says 1) they never heard of facetime, and 2) they need to get a life.

For me, I do CIQ for fun - as a hobby.
