Lots of unfair developers (Garmin, where are you?)

Hello guys!

I am terribly annoyed by the fact that a bunch of similar applications appeared in the app store, in which not a drop of heart and effort was invested. At the same time, the number of such applications and developers is growing rapidly.

For example:

https://apps.garmin.com/en-US/developer/c506e11c-06a8-48a8-9c2f-441e3dd87234/apps

https://apps.garmin.com/en-US/developer/9600e368-ac57-4091-a52f-e45b6e507af5/apps

https://apps.garmin.com/en-US/developer/180d3966-8870-4362-af71-575b78c8d6b3/apps

https://apps.garmin.com/en-US/developer/3f5c726a-cf05-4c3a-b840-c315ccbd4bb8/apps

https://apps.garmin.com/en-US/developer/d4dd2adf-d651-4414-9984-01dc83420eb4/apps

Aside from their gaudy watch faces, what do all these developers have in common? That they use the KiezelPay payment system. For this, there is a separate group in Discord, where their curator gives advice on how to sell and what to do to increase your profit.

The developers release a large number of empty updates for their applications and winds up reviews from a large number of their devices. Obviously, all of his applications do not carry any aesthetic or unique meaning, and the developers are trying to sell it for real money. I am not satisfied with the fact that his applications are constantly shown in the list of popular ones, but we understand that this is only because they have given their applications a large number of positive reviews from their accounts. Please consider blocking these developers or limiting their stay in popular applications.

Thank you for attention! And please express your opinion. It seems to me that now a global problem is being born for the entire Garmin ecosystem, which does not pay attention to such developers and does not try to improve the app's rating and ranking system.

  • It would be great if Garmin even react with any response to us

This goes from bad to worse:

now you can not see applications with few downloads on categories on store!

Garmin has limited the number of pages on categories, so the only way to find them is with SEARCH,.

and the ones with artificial downloads still there!!! i´m very disappointed and unmotivated

  • same feeling;

  • The current Connect IQ Store is a JOKE.

I remember times where listings worked better and where one was able to select watch models and/or app types and so on.

To me it looks like the site isn't developed further.

Maybe (and hopefully) Garmin has something better in work.

  • The watchfaces are back with hundred of the same type of app i think garmin shold do more categories including a scam risk category

  • The scariest part is that all of those wf require permissions:

    • Run in the background when it is not active (potentially affecting battery life)
    • Send/receive information to/from the Internet

...when there's nothing in their functionality that would require those permissions.

I suspect they're just stealing data.

Can anyone find source code for those things?

  • The reason that they need those permission is that they use kpay, as being pay watches, that's the scheme they can insure payments.  In a WF, having a background is the only way to do the comm.

  • I have a number of WFs that require those same permissions and they only thing they do get get weather info from outside sources.  My favorite is weather underground, as with that I can get data from my own back yard.

  • he scariest part is that all of those wf require permissions:

Those are a basic requirement for any Internet based payment system.

For example, the process for Kiezel pay is:

    1. Watch sends unique id : Toybox.System.DeviceSettings (garmin.com) to Kiezel

    2. Kiezel registers a trial start and replies with an trial identifier code

    3. Trial identifier code is shown on the watch

    4. User purchases against the identifier code

    5. Kiezel matches the unique id against the purchase and sends a message to the watch to unlock

For that to happen requires both background and send / receive from the Internet.

So there is nothing dodgy or concerning in requesting those privileges.
