Lots of unfair developers (Garmin, where are you?)

Hello guys!

I am terribly annoyed by the fact that a bunch of similar applications appeared in the app store, in which not a drop of heart and effort was invested. At the same time, the number of such applications and developers is growing rapidly.

For example:

https://apps.garmin.com/en-US/developer/c506e11c-06a8-48a8-9c2f-441e3dd87234/apps

https://apps.garmin.com/en-US/developer/9600e368-ac57-4091-a52f-e45b6e507af5/apps

https://apps.garmin.com/en-US/developer/180d3966-8870-4362-af71-575b78c8d6b3/apps

https://apps.garmin.com/en-US/developer/3f5c726a-cf05-4c3a-b840-c315ccbd4bb8/apps

https://apps.garmin.com/en-US/developer/d4dd2adf-d651-4414-9984-01dc83420eb4/apps

Aside from their gaudy watch faces, what do all these developers have in common? That they use the KiezelPay payment system. For this, there is a separate group in Discord, where their curator gives advice on how to sell and what to do to increase your profit.

The developers release a large number of empty updates for their applications and winds up reviews from a large number of their devices. Obviously, all of his applications do not carry any aesthetic or unique meaning, and the developers are trying to sell it for real money. I am not satisfied with the fact that his applications are constantly shown in the list of popular ones, but we understand that this is only because they have given their applications a large number of positive reviews from their accounts. Please consider blocking these developers or limiting their stay in popular applications.

Thank you for attention! And please express your opinion. It seems to me that now a global problem is being born for the entire Garmin ecosystem, which does not pay attention to such developers and does not try to improve the app's rating and ranking system.

  • (Also, fr45 is CIQ 1 so no background and no paid watches.)

  • Right now, out of the 8 trending apps in the web based store, there's one device app, 2 DF's and a music app. so not all WFs.

And while you can't use kpay on a fr45, paid apps are very possible, using a key emailed to the user and entered with app settings, as has been done for years.  The 48k limit for WFs on a fr45/swim2 is probably the real limiting factor.

  • You are right, of course, that it is possible (and I have two DF unlock processes that don’t use background that would work with WF) but it is unlikely for most watch face designers because:

    a) It’s too small a number to make any of the following worthwhile

    b) It would require either a home-cooked solution with manual input

    Or...

    c) A coded automated solution that somebody has to build

    d) A greater level of tech savvy than at least some watch designers have access to

    Tl;dr

    Possible, yes. Likely, no.

  • Actually, it's common for paid WFs..Kpay wasn't the first way to do paid stuff and is used for lots of paid stuff today..

Talking about other paid WFs, the first two in trending are full of reviews asking for a pro code. And they've been there for a while. That also falls in the unfairness pit.

    Like this one?

Yes, I agree, apart from being a bloody stupid thing for people to do with their email addresses, that’s definitely a suspect tactic to game the ratings system.

  • Sorry, but....

It would be a a suspect tactic, if I would not be asking and encouraging EVERYBODY (you can read every answer) to NOT USE THAT CHANNEL TO SHARE THE INFO. And tell EVERYBODY to use a PRIVATE CHANNEL like the contact form.

But it seems that the people do what they want, don't read, or whatever...

IT IS NOT MY FAULT OR A TACTIC.

Please, do not put everyone in the same basket...

  • Fair enough, but the practical reality is messy.

There should be (even for the sake of privacy / protection) a means to move those out of the public reviews and (given the thread topic) trending algorithm.

As I understand it, flagging reviews and what happens to them are both manual processes. When the number that need attention is as high as that, I wonder whether a manual process is enough.

  • Yes, even MagicDust winds up reviews on his apps.
    7 days since first release.
    180 downloads
    33 reviews

All with 5 stars and all without comments

  • The only way is if no comment in a review no compute in stars.

So 10 good review without a comment so no stars
