Bike bell

Dear developers, can one of you create a basic bike bell? Just a button to press and my garmin edge 1030 would be ringing continuously to warn people on my way, until button is pressed again.

  • After researching, due to Garmin's limitations, I am unable to access the motion sensor and accelerometer in real-time from a data field. As a workaround, I’ll implement automatic activation based on step cadence (steps per minute) for running activities. Specifically, I'll create a data field that triggers a bell between 60 and 100 steps per minute, which corresponds to slower walking during a run. It won’t activate at 60 SPM or lower, such as when stopping. Does this solution work for you?

  • Hi there,

Are we just talking specifically for the edge device, as I was thinking for my fenix 8 watch? So there’s no way of manually activating it then instead?
I’m not sure if the automated alarm would be beneficial for my use as I’m trying to hold a decent pace throughout the run. Not to say it wouldn’t be useful to others. For the moment I deliberately scuff my trainer off the floor as I approach walkers from a distance to alert them instead of having to shout all the time.

    thanks

    Ryan

  • I am afraid nobody would hear the beep of the watch anyway. In comparison to Edge, it is quite silent, and you cannot control its volume. I rather recommend getting a bell or a horn for runners. For example this one:

  • Haha I haven’t seen one of those before Thumbsup tone1lol. Although I think it would depend on the environment you’re running in as to whether it’s loud enough on the fenix 8. I predominantly running on quiet paths/ trails which I think the volume would just about be loud enough to hear. But in a city or near busy roads I’d agree not really adequate.

Me too, but in such conditions people will hear you coming far before they could hear the beep, on my mind. Unless they use earphones, in which case only a truly loud ring or horn (or a shout) can help.
