Is there a listener to detect when a lap starts/ends?

I have an app idea which requires detecting when the user has started or ended a lap on their watch but I haven't been able to find anything at a quick glance of the docs (so I might be misunderstanding how a developed widget works when running i.e. if it is a complete standalone app or can piggy back on other watch features). I haven't looked at widget development before. Would it be possible to detect when the user has started or ended a lap on their run? The intention would be to send a notification to another device when this occurs.

That's typically something you do in a fata field. And there you have onTimerLap()

A widget is a stand alone app, normally used as a "quick view" of something and had a timeout of between about 30…

Ah thank you Jim. I'm just starting to read to docs and look at examples. Is there a basic example of a simple app which runs in the background and listens for an event anywhere as a quick start? How does a user enable/disable these types of apps if they're not the "widget" kind?

There's an example of doing a background in a WF, but it's basically the same in a widget.

The thing with a background, is at most it can run every 5 minutes, so likely would miss anything you're looking for,

It sounds to me like you want to build a data field instead of a widget.

I've had a look at the example datafield app on github and it seems like a good starting point. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction.
